Larry,

I am a believer and intend on making the switch to Orijen ASAP which means when the bag of Chicken Soup is finished, so are they and Diamnond pet foods maker of Menu pet foods AKA one and the same...I am all to familiar with what happened with menu and the list of companies that recalled their products, just was not aware (although I did know Dianmond made Chicken Soup) or should have known better...I guess we believe what we need to believe and I really did think it was a good dog food or I would have stayed with RC which is made by Menu which was why I made the switch to begin with...

I am also having some of the Canine Complete purchased for me by someone I know in NH who I will be seeing very soon and they will bring it to me then...I will gradually make the switch over to Orijen with the added suppliment so as not to upset the dogs digestive systems too much, now lets hope they both like it and will eat it...

Thanks for the lesson in dog food like I always say: "there is something new to learn every day..."I'll let you know how things work out when we begin the new feeding regiment...

Its all good and getting better..Man look at how many people have read this thread not to mention how many have "replied"...Never too old or experienced to learn something new...

  Thanks,

    Rob

Rob

For many years I believed all the Madison Avenue magicians and the tall tales that they spin on how good commerical kibble was.  I also believed my Vet.  It cost me the lives of my 2 German Shepherds. I hate to say this but most of them feed and recommend Science Diet that is one of the absolute worst kibbles on the market.  I have to believe their is some kick back scheme going on there.

So the average person has no idea whats going on hey if its advertised on TV and my vet  recommends it has to be good. This is a sad state of affairs The pet food industry is a 15 billion dollar business just in the US so all these hugh multi national conglomerates have gobbled up all these compines  and don't even think  for one second they have the dogs and their owners best interest at heart.

What to do educate yourself it's all right here on the internet in plain view for anyone who wants to put the time in to educate themselves.    Orijen is the exception to the rule.   What ever food your feeding your dog the first question to ask is who manufactures the product and under what conditions who buys the ingrediants and who dies the quality control.    Beleve me you might be real surprised at the answers you come up with.  Oh yes these days one other quewstion to ask is my dog food involved in the latest recall and has it killed any dogs recently!!!

Larrydee~ I am that grief stricken lady who's dog died of renal failure. I did suspect it could have been the Diamond dog food but now I don't believe that true. I had 2 other dogs on it and they are fine. My other 2 dogs are still off of the Diamond but I will be putting them back on the remainder until it is gone. After all of this, I do think that will be the last I feed if it. I must say they have been doing fine on it. My thin dog bulked up finally. I am aware of Chicken Soup and other foods out there. My new pup is on other food and I am going to switch my rescues to something better. I just can't deal with all of this food scare stuff. I read and read and read about dog food weekly.

I believe what Roborob was trying to get at is... we all do what we can. Chicken Soup is better than some, not as good as others. Yellow Rose is on a tight budget I believe and may not be able to afford Orijen??? I haven't checked out the pricing on it as of yet. I have a few other foods I am willing to try, before having Orijen shipped to me. Not sure I can even afford to feed 3 dogs on it. I'm seriously thinking of feeding my adults Evo and supplementing with RAW. I have been telling myself it's too much $ to put all of them on it, yet when you think about it...how much is your dogs health/wellbeing/happiness worth to you? They seem OK with what they are eating now but we all want to do the "best we can". For some, that will be better than others, depending on income/location/knowledge and desire.

I have one dog who always has allergies in spring/summer. Her skin is bright red and turns black, she is an itchy bitchy. Vet has done steroid shots and various pills through the years. It would be great to find a food that could solve her issues. Paying more for the food, would more than make up for the vet visits and medications. Non of my dogs have had bald spots or coat issues. I would be willing to buy anything if my dogs hair was falling out!

Just found the closest store is 50 minutes and the price is $53.00 for a 29.7lb bag of Orijen $64.00 for the fish recipe.

Evo at the same place is $48.50 for 28.6lb bag.

I will further research both companies formulas and ingredients.

Yes, I am on a tight budget.....I like the idea of Orijen, but here do not know where it is...will have to research it and that is out of sight budget wise....I know that diamond is a commercial co and they have come under scrutiny in the past....I talked to Janet Reitmaier , who use to work for another co.....and she is very forthwith,,,I told her Id own Diamond if this chicken soup didnt havae in it what it said......again the commercial gooroos that do all this dont give a rats a-----about whether our dogs live or die.....I will hve to do more raw meat and It is not that costly, as you watch and get lots at a nice price llll   just more trips to the store because Freezer compartments on two frigs are not big enough with all the junk I havea in them.....clean house I guess......Larry Dee , you are very correct on all points......I am going to sell some dogs, and get kennel cut down  as things just are not like they use to be......Commercializism in every thing,,,,akc has gone up. ,our economy is hanging in a balance of   la la la land,,,and could put me under if I dont do it now.......keep a couple of females and my three main studs , and let people look at pics, not the real thing.....ive always kept a pup from every llitter.,as yo see, not a lot of litters,  and then people can see what is produced    Time to revamp   as is it getting too expensive to have so many beautiful specimens that I may not , soon one day , not be able to keep beautiful any longer.....our food we eat is in the same dither also, and the people on medicines are at the mercy of pharmachutical companies and Doctors , often causing more problems than if they would not take the meds......Kevin Trudeau wrote two books   What They dont want you to Know    and now has a second    find them at  Walmart Super Centers    good read   makes you wonder when    IS THE RAPTURE COMING?    Soon and very Soon.....

Does anyone have the link to the company that makes Innova? I can't find anything but retailers who sell it.

4 pack and yellowrose      There is something you can do but you need to be real careful which kibble you feed.   Supplement your kibble with Canine Complete that will give your dogs all the proper nutrients they need that your kibble is not providing and should clear up the itching and hot spots even grow hair where it hasn't grown before.    They use all organic wholistic foods with no compromise whatsoever in ingrediants and manufacturing process.

I'm not on firm footing when I say this as it is second hand but their are a couple of less expensive kibbles you can look at.  I know a couple of breeders who use them and have no problems.  First is National dog food which is manufactured in a small plant in Wisconsin the second is Canidee the problem i have with it is i don't know who manufactures it but I know a couple of breeders who are doing real well with it and you can pick it up on sale for around $28.00 or so a bag  National is also quite reasonable

But Orijen as far as I'm concerened is the way to go   I feel it is the best kibble on the market but if on a tight budget check out the other two. Again i have no personal experience with either of them just second hand recommendations and by all means supplement whatever food you go with Canine Complete      Yellowrose I'd stay away from Flint River if  I'm not mistaken it's on the current re-call list.     Best of luck to all

I'm not on that tight of a budget, I just have to get "used" to spending more per bag. If the outcome is all you swear it is, I will get over the initial ticket shock. I can cut back in other areas to do better by my dogs. I only have 3 now but I know others have several.

Good thing about the better foods is you can get by feeding less. 3 cups of more expensive food a day is better than 5 cups of junk food.
