missbeeb: I have posted that the Ballot closes at noon on Saturday 21st February, of course this can be extended, perhaps to the end of the month, or to the 7th March which will mean it runs for 3 weeks. I am aware that it is important that people have an opportunity to vote, and some people may need longer to consider. This ballot gives this group of people an opportunity to express their opinion, publicly, on this important issue for our breed. Thoughts please of ballot closing date.

I wouldn't know when to close the ballot, it is good to see people signing slowly but surely, but i felt there would have been a lot more by now. How long do people need? surely after years of this debate one would know if they are a yes or no, VOTE, VOTE, VOTE, AND VOTE, PLEASE!!!!!!  LIZ

While I feel it is inevitable that the breed will need to be split by the KC at some point, I wonder what happens to the likes of myself, who although considering that the 'Germanic' or 'Continental'  type is correct, still prefer an unexaggerated type of German Shepherd particularly without a roached back and loose hocks, and hyperactive temperament.  As an occasional judge of the breed this is the type I prefer to put up, and would choose, should I be looking for a stud dog or a new puppy so that I could both work and show it (handling myself!).

I worry that certain factions seem to be calling for a breakaway from the Kennel Club, which I consider would be detrimental to the breed, as the dogs, the shows and the judging would become even more extreme than they are now.

I enjoy judging the breed, I believe I do an honest job and judge to the Kennel Club Breed Standard as I interpret it, giving fair consideration to dogs of all types as the owners have given me the courtesy of judging their dogs, but truly believe those of us who take the middle way will be left with nowhere to go.  There are plenty of well known kennels whose dogs can and have been exhibited under judges from 'both sides' and I cannot see how the split would work for such exhibitors.

So what I think I am trying to say is, go ahead and call for the split, but don't take your interpretation of the type to extremes.

If you are going to extend it to 7th March, surely it would be better to give it a couple more days, as Pastoral day at Crufts is on the 8th, and I am sure this will be a topic of conversation for a lot of people, many of whom will not be aware of either the ballot or this site.  JMHO.

i think that some people do not understand what this vote is about  we all know there is only one type of GSD that being the type bred to the wusv standard unfortunately in this country we do have two distinct types, two types of shows, and two types of judges, your vote can help to put an end to this nonsense once and for all this is a vote to separate the two types not to leave the kc or any other thing that might crop up  so if you are happy to see it remain as it is vote no if you want to split the two types vote yes there is no need for dont know's maybe's or any other abstentions it would seem that this breed once noted for being outgoing and forward thinking now has to many fence sitters every body involved in this breed has an opinion on the types here in, so come on get of the fence and voice your opinion you all know it makes sense

Jeevs
Good posts Jeevs. In answere to your question perhaps this might help - Did you like the Crufts 08 BOB winner? If so then you have nothing to worry about as the majority of GSD types voting Yes prefer that type of dog. Likewise if you didnt like him at all, then you still have nothing to worry about as the majority of Alsatian people voting YES didnt like him either so whichever way you look at it, voting Yes can only be good for BOTH SIDES.

As for your worries about leaving the KC, dont ever worry about that as I doubt it will ever happen, at least not in my lifetime and if there ever was a split from the KC (somewhere far off in the distant future), I am certain that it would be because a much superior system had been put in place otherwise they wouldnt get enough people prepared to leave. As it is, I reckon in the long run belonging to both the KC and Established Breed Club System would be the BEST future altogether for the Breed. Afterall that is what they have in the SV in Germany, all the dogs are registered with the German (all breed) Kennel Club as well as the SV (Shepherd Breed Clubs) the best of both worlds methinks.

David,
As for chosing a date for closing the Vote, I think Jeevs point regarding the date of Crufts Pastoral Day was a good one. Perhaps you could consider extending it to the weekend after Crufts? Also , think then the result should be sent out toall Breed Club Secs and hopefully it can be discussed at the next BC Meeting. Since Mo was co-ordinating all the ideas etc I assume she had already sent a proposal to be placed on the next BC Agenda? This I believe should be done before the list is sent to the KC, for I believe if the List is to mean anything at all to the KC it would have to be presented to them with the weight of Breed Club backing behind it.

Regards
Sue b
