I have this problem now with my female.  Has good aggression but grip is not 100% and she does not work well when I do the helper work myself, too much conflict.  Unfortunately there is no dedicated helper for me to use at the moment so I must continue to train most exercises myself.  Half sister to that male I posted a vid of earlier.  Not going to win much in IPO which is my sport at the moment but is good for other venues.

A high prey dog would be easier to train for sure.

Haz, are you saying that a dog who actually has a brain and can think is not suitable for sport and those with huge prey drives who cant think because they get overcome by them are better for IPO?

Duke, you, Suzy and I are the same age, so, mark these words, in 20 years, the only dog "sport" around will be some sort of AKC style show and obedience and the only European biting sport will be the KNPV. Currently, there is only ONE breed that can be called a GSD and that is the breed that actually works in whatever venue it was created to perform in...there are no sport or show lines, if it cant work, its not a GSD!

No I am saying a high prey dog which is less serious is easier to train protection to as a game. Therefor you can do it yourself instead of having to rely on a third party. Plenty of good dogs in IPO, plenty of great ones too.

Duke, your post on past, present, and future is soooooo right on so many levels. I started that same narrative years ago, And time has only strengthened that concept in my mind.

What i mis in todays high prey dogs is i beleive its called discern in english. The ability to think for its self and handle situations beyond his basic training. When policedogs were called partners, now the LE want just equipment.

And that suits the high prey dog.

Allen, you are absolutely spot on. Equipment, don't think, expendable... many LE handlers ( not all of them, for sure) have this attitude.

64 pages later...

The single greatest loss of character to the breed. Breeding high prey is easy, breeding defense is easy, breeding intuition and the ability to work exclusive, yikes

I read in some post there are NO real  strong  WL GSD,  I don,t agree with this

In Holland I know some small breeders who don,t care about famous studs  KKL körung  brown ,grey, or .black colour

they only look what are the best and strong bloodlines  this breeders  training KNPV

They breeding 1 lor 2 itters  every year . For the GSD people can  this bloodlines

interesting but the sad thing is this breeders  are not in the SV.VDH system  for KKl körung and some dogs are not titled in the pedigree but the bloodlines are great ,  so most the IPO breeders never

gonna use this dogs  for breeding and I,m sure most of the GSD people have never heard about them  because they .

KNPV is very small (there many more IPO people in Holland)so if I wanna find good WL  GSD

with strong proven bloodlines thats is not a problem

The quality is there but  it will never  be used  by most of the  breeders its a big lost  IMO

KKL ,or certificates are ok but  it is not allways necessary most important thing

are  the  good genetics  ................  and of course this dogs are X rayed hips, ellbows, back etc

and have   FCI  pedigrees

Sometimes it´s difficult...
Might be no bad idea to recognize Ringsport and KNPV trials according to IPO trials.
But I would want to see a show rating, DNA, and certified hips and elbow, too.
Afterwards there should be no problem for these dogs to do a breed survey.
What about the pedigrees? Are they "okay" for SV?
