if you feel like better not to leave your PP dog in public with no supervision, it's already indication you have little to no trust into reliability of your dog. thus such dog poses danger to neutral, non threatening surrounding, regardless dog was trained for PP or not.
good, suitable for PP dog was always been hard to find.
Your assumption and conclusion are absolutely incorrect!
I said my dog would never be in town without me because that is a stupid scenario and unrealistic....oeash law would mean he would be picked up by animal control and empounded...I would be fined. Or, he would be shot by a store owner because people are allowed to shoot " strays" ....or he would get run over by a vehicle.
Has nothing to do with my dog being a danger to any one, he would not be! But he would be in grave danger on his own without me.
You saying I have no trust in the reliability of my dog on his own is because you do not understand what happens to unaccompanied dogs in this town ( they are called strays)...they end up dead!
Dude! I trust my dog!!! ....but I absolutely have ZERO trust in people to not kill my dog.

I'll tell you why you believe they must be two distinct animals...because most pp trained dogs don't have any torritoriality instincts... Because it has been bred out of so many dogs for the purpose of sport dogs..it's not selected for. So those dogs can be trained to perform as a ppd, but they can't act upon their own accord, it's all rote and commands, same as sport routine.

Joan, you're one, difficult to talk to
nowhere i said PP trained dog can't watch after perimeter. but that doesn't mean good watchdog can do a good personal protection dog.
also nowhere i'm critical of your dogs. i can't because i haven't seen them.
protection dog is much more than just a dog with decent level of aggression and good obedience.
real (not YouTube) PP training in fact are very complex process, which includes all possible (and even scenarios most likely not realistic in real life) variations of situations, which can happens.
what people talks in regard of PP dogs and their training, is rather the dogs, who can be good deterring factor than professional protection dog.
to have discussion about protection dogs, i believe at first should be reached consensus about what is personal protection dog and what objectives behind that term.

I did not imply that a dog good enough only for watch dog can be a ppd.
However, a good dog that is territorial and has the sound temperament to be a ppd, definitely can be both.

A dog does not have to be trained as you are saying, in multiple city settings jumping from fire escape or what ever, in order to serve as protection for someone like me.
My dogs know everything about this 85 acres we own that is mostly woods with an elevation of 1100 feet at top of the hill and a vallt below with acreek running through and wetland. If someone is here and is intending harm, my dog will not hessitate to bite and fight....that's what he is supposed to do....not be friendly buddy of any one who shows up. He does not need to jump through a window and chase someone into the subway.
He only needs to take care of me and mine here at home or when he is in the van with me on a trip.
