And Bee the experienced who took him over is the one who said he was very protective. I dont have any info as to why the family grew afraid of him.

Ask them about "resource guarding humans". You will benefit, trust me.

explain the difference between natural protectiveness and resource guarding of humans. How do we recognize and differentiate them?

- Hntrjmpr.
Small wonder the British turned up their collective
noses at the prong collar (YEARS ago ), when even
its advocates cannot agree on HOW it is used.
Do you lot realise how 'old' that argument just there
is, on this board alone ?
Jenni, Bee raised the shoulder straining thing; sorry
I based my reply to you both around it without going
further to say this :
IME those dogs which MIGHT benefit from using a
prong, on the basis "its another tool in the box", are
more about how intelligent they are, and how stubbornly
independent, and how they can USE their strength,
than it is just about them pulling on lead. That is just
that type of Shepherd (probably the better type of GSD,
really ! ;-D ) and it has never been confined to the place
or the bloodline of origin.
