Susie, great post,
A topic that has Mackenzie behind it is always worth following

In the long run, not entering her in organized events may be better for both of us. I experienced the full snobbery effect of AKC conformation shows with my last GSD (who was a magnificent dog- but certainly not perfect) and this go around, I got even worse treatment from the WL folks. My general feeling is that both sides, in a word- suck and make owning a dog less enjoyable.

And many of you wonder on here why more GSD owners do not campaign
or title their dogs in any field ? If what Beeker describes is really the case
in the US, and it chimes with what Blitzen often writes re the American dog
scene not co-operating with each other, then someone needs to start some
sort of "lets be nicer to each other" campaign !
Good grief - I hear some tales of rude or unhelpful people in the dog world
in the UK, but not, eg, of wide-scale hostility to every new club member.
We still have a majority of people who are kind to newbies, willingly give
their time to help them out, it's pretty easy to find someone to 'mentor' you,
IME; there are established ways of dealing with breeding terms (loan of
bitch), we do not usually have massive arguments over contracts and
warrentys ... I could go on and on.
WTF is wrong with you people ?

Cutaway's comment now broadens the discussion on this thread outside of the normal reason for a split between S/L and W/L dogs. It also sheds some light on the American scene in the breed. The show dogs are not that good despite having some top German blood available to them. Why the dog has to kneel down when being presented is beyond me. When I look at pictures of the dogs they say to me that many breeders in US just do not understand how to breed. The main point is that just because the American Shepherd (AKC) is different that is not a good enough reason for a division in the breed. It is up to the Americans to improve their breeding programmes and not try to force their opinions on the rest of the world. Have an opinion yes but also respect other people who know more about the topic and perhaps enough will be learnt to improve the breed and attitude of that side of the pond.
The PDB has been virtually taken over by the USA and many contributors with opinions and advice based on knowledge have gone elsewhere.

Listen good what this man is saying this is for every working breed. Rottweiler another nice working breed almost lost.

Many thanks BlackMalinois for bringing this to the attention of this thread. I appreciate it.

Pretty sure xeph on here doesnt want to take over your dogs in uk with her breeding practices. Me neither.
Ps. @ '..both sides ...make owning a dog less enjoyable.'
If i relied on 'both sides' for my happiness, joy with owning my dogs, id have quit years ago....DO IT FOR YOURSELF. NOONE CAN MAKE YOU HAPPY BUT YOU.

Mac, think about this before you continue to bash all Americans and their dogs: It's an ugly fact of life that humans too often categorize, stereotype and profile not only other people but their dogs, too. One must realize this is a part of life if one is to advance in experience and learn.
