Hired Dog

Why dont you now Blitzen, shares with us how YOU treat your dogs who are number 45 on the sleeping number bed. You seem to love getting involved while asking others, not like minded, to stay away from your posts....

So, are your dogs livestock to be disposed of like broken kitchen appliances, YOUR words, not mine, or, are they furbabies wearing pj's and safely tucked in their numbered 4 poster beds?

I treat my dog - only have one now - somewhere in between I guess. The sleep number comment  BTW was meant as a joke. I do keep her as a housedog, have always had at least one housedog, but have also had kennel dogs too over the years. A dog that can't serve as my housedog and personal companion is of no use to me these days. I like my dog to be trainable and obedient. My housedogs aren't allowed on the furniture and none slept in the same bed with my blessing. However I do often wake up during the night with her sleeping on my legs, so she needs to get off. I will cry when she dies, I have cried over almost every dog I've owned at one time or another. To me they are not furbabies to be dressed up and pushed around in carriages nor are they considered livestock in the strictest definition of that term. I doubt many dogs are. Thanks for asking.

I also keep my dog in the house, it is not allowed on furniture, it is treated like a dog, it eats raw, it gets daily training and work, it gets to play and run and expend drive, but, its still a dog and does not define me like many dogs do to their owners.

I have also lost dogs while working on other parts of the world and their loss affects me but in my position, tears do not bring the relief needed...I am not emotional in the way pet owners are with their dogs, I am fully aware and in agreement with the fact that my dog may die while working, that also holds true for me, so, I look at them differently.

So you're an inbetweener too! I think most dog breeders/trainers are. I tend to give my current dog a bit more leeway than normal since she's had so many homes before I took her. I felt sorry for her Sad Smile. No dog should have 8 homes in 3 1/2 years for reasons like - she got too big, she tried to protect me, she had too many puppies in one litter- what? So I cut her a few breaks I've never given any of the other housedogs. So far so good LOL. I don't think my dogs define me, but maybe I do let them sometimes?
