Personally I don't think you can lump all e collar users together as one. The correct use of an e collar is around the neck, thus the word collar, and if used properly it is an effective training tool for those instances where the dog's life is in jeapardy, ie. chasing cars, chasing horses, etc. In my opinion. Now, to classify me with those that would wrap one of these things anywhere but on the neck, is a complete insult to me. I mean, come on let's be fair here.

Taken 4 days after e-collar was removed and dog treated.
When I was growing up my mother always said - what you do to that dog, I do to you. I soon found out what hurt. IMO e-collars used as intended have their place in the dog training world. However, they should not be available to pet owners who are the ones who seem to do the most damage with them. They consider them a teaching tool and don't understand why Rinnie, a dog that has never been taught to "come", runs away even faster when he's shocked. I don't think they should be used anywhere else other than around the neck and I don't think the dog should be wetted down prior to the correction. A trainer who needs to resort to that sort of correction, isn't much of a dog trainer. A better idea might be to breed for a dog that can be trained without physical force?

The general public is too stupid to realize that a 9 month old bitch is capable of conceiving and having puppies.
The general public is WAY too stupid to understand the proper use of an e-collar.

Maybe the sale of these things ought to require the person take a course, and get a license, the way they do with firearms here in Canada...

????? you asked why a collar would be worn anywhere other than the neck.

by Slamdunc on 14 June 2013 - 11:06
I have been through it many times and I lack the drive and motivation needed to start a thread on motivationally teaching the out or the proper and humane use of the E collar. I was just concurring with GSDsport that using the collar appropriately can achieve results. In contrast, the improper use or improper training can cause adverse effects.
