Oh yea. Oh yea. Max did it. Max did it.
This time he acted like an 11 month old pup with some manners, instead of a 4 month old ill mannered pain in the rear. I am so proud. He even showed off a few of his "around," "touch," and finished heels.
I took a little bit of everyone's advice, tweaked it a bit over the weekend. I did use the pinch collar, but after a couple of soft corrections with it, he came right in line and paid attention to me. I used can hotdogs as high value treats. We also got there early enough so Max could watch everyone as they came in and visited some.
We had a couple of minor hick ups. Max decided that a rotti needed to be put in his place. A quick "no" and "look" brought Max back to my side looking at me like "but Fawnda, he looked at me cross eyed." He then also hesitated when a trainer came up with a Band-Aid on their finger and did not allow Max to get a full investigation before petting. Both of these are easily worked on and completely why we are driving 150 miles round trip every Tuesday.
Thanks everyone for advice.

My rescued dog had the same issues. My dog trainer stressed that a prong collar is ok for young dogs,BUT not ok to wear when dog is meeting other dogs.If the prong collar is being used while your dog meets a new one, even if you are not correcting but your dog say pulls on the leash, the prong collar comes to action, your dog will associate the correction with the other dog.Meaning you are creating an even worse situation.
Make sure you arrive 20 minutes earlier and let your dog meet the others. There is a 3 second rule.Sniff, sniff, butt and go on.Also, you can have other dog owners walk with some distance side by side,so they will meet without feeling threatened.Dogs feel threatened coming onto each other,so walk around to meet and greet beforehand.i also walk or run my dog before class,to let the yah yahs out.Works pretty well.
Good luck

That really depends on the dog and it's individual reaction to a correction. For some dogs a prong collar correction can escalate aggression, that is true. For other dogs the correction will stop the behavior with out any increase in aggression. A person needs to know what type of temperament their dog has before applying a pain induced correction. Universal rules do not work with dogs or dog training as each animal is different. If you have a dog aggressive dog that goes higher into aggression from a correction tool, well there are other means of correction that will not increase aggression. If the dog does not become increasingly aggressive or handler aggressive than the prong collar would be fine to use. The correction should stop the undesirable behavior immediately as that is the point of a correction.

Thanks. See my thread from today "Max has this obedience down pat". He did a great job last night. All the new dogs are no longer a high distraction just a meet and greet then move on to the business at hand.
