Love of money is the root of all evil.
Take a note that it is not  The   money, but the love of it. Thus to look down on someone who breeds dogs and sells pups for money is akin to look down on someone who sells tires because they make money on it. ( And NO!!! I am not comparing dogs to tires for Pete's sake!)
There are 2 moral and ethical reasons to breed dogs.
1. reason is to improve the breed.
2. reason (equally important)  is to provide the public of law enforcement or other such entity with quality dogs.
Many people, I would say most, are not equipped to improve the breed.  But they love dogs and people who love dogs. They want to be part of the process and they love to work with dogs. Often then  it becomes their way of life. Thus they may buy from someone knowledgeable  quality matched breeding pair  and then they may breed dogs to produce quality dogs for general public, police, S&R, handicapped support,...you name it . It is a business like any other and if done properly and ethically then there is nothing wrong with it. Many dispute which price is fair and how much breeders should charge. And who is ripping whom.  I'll ask. What is fair price for milk, or car or anything?
Fairness of that is dictated purely  by supply and demand. That is all. Yes. There are some good souls who give dogs away, but even  they need to make money somewhere else. Thus from strictly economical point of view they must ad the price of their dogs on price of some other product which they are selling,...like milk  or tires. I sometimes give dogs away  mainly to wounded soldiers with PTSD, or to friends. But that is besides the point. We all need money to survive. If someone does what he loves for living than he/she is blessed.  Many are jealous of that in good way or in envious way.
Some are blessed so much that they are able breed the dogs for both reasons.
I would also like to ad that
some naively believe that cost of breeding is nominal charge for dog food and shots. Only a silly person or someone making a joke ( cruel joke at that) can say that.  Such sentiments leads to many back yard breeders who think that it is all they need to spend and then their profit will be  abundant when they sell dogs for $1800.
However  then they are surprised that food and shots are probably only 1% of the cost of  breeding dogs.

Are you referring to me and what I said? If so, do you really think I think that is all there is to it? I mentioned of other things, not in depth of course, but I'm not naive about the matter.

This is going towards costs, price, and sales.  Completely unrelated.  Start another thread, would be a good one.

A lot of noise on this post but it doesn't change the fact that Hexe you are right on.
