Quote: Just because you say so, it does not make it fact. I bet there has not been a police K9 with BSZS VA or V sire and dam for 2 generations since the early 1980's. Now here is a fact, click the link below for this working SL GSD
As much as I would love to use this to throw the SL people under the bus, this dog did make good. This was very early in his career, so I read.

Quote: We have to distinguish between genuine working dogs and competition working dogs. The genuine working dogs are generally sound in temperament and do make good family companions, just ask any handler of these dogs as many are kept at home within a family environment. The modern competition dog has been developed mainly for it’s biting ability rather than it’s overall working qualities. Many of these dogs are way over the top when it comes to aggression.
ANother who has lost their mind. What clubs do you go to that you see all these dogs that are way to aggressive ? Please name the clubs, and the specific dogs. Thats right, I think you are completely full of shit. You want to know why it falls on deaf ears ? Because you are full of shit.
Enough of the straw man arguement. Bust out the clubs and the names of the dogs. Hell take video. I would love to see it, and would be interested in breeding to one of these dogs in the future.

Quote: Ideally, the salient trait to be bred for (on both lines) should be sound and relaible temperament.
The basic problem with this, is that there is no standard that shows and tells AND teaches what this is. How the hell does a beginner figure out what correct temperament is, with all the bullshit that is out there today ?
Since there is no one out there that shows what it is, as almost every dog is lacking somewhere, the people we see writing all this silly shit just don't know any better. What is even worse, is that given the opportunity to learn, by bringing their dogs out to show them where they are strong, and were they lack, they would rather stay home and attack the people who have actually sucked it up and took their dogs out and learned what is correct, and then, the basic fact that all dogs are lacking, and it is just how it is. No, these people would rather just live in their Disney world where their dog saves the day every day.

> Once again good topic!! I must agree SL dogs are far and few able to pass and become PSDs. I think schutzhund today is too watered down for the SL dogs as well!!
> I'm not saying there aren't any as I had a showline(american) male myself (Clayfield Justice) with lines back to Covy Tucker Hill a PSD who was one kick ass dog on the street. However in those days when selecting dogs (donations), they were all backyard dogs with no pedigree and bad looks for the most part. I probably accepted a few SD lines as well but it wasn't even close.
> Kyle that video is bad! However I am on a website for PSD handlers in England. It was a screwed up deployment. The handler admitted his mistakes to all on the list. However the dog has over 100 arrests, and is still going strong!!

To Jeff O: The 2 current working police k9's that CrHuerta is referrring to are full service k9's trained in all aspects of k9 work. They did not go through an "easy 2 week" course but rather an extremely difficult 8 weeks of pre-training and 12 weeks with the handler at a well recognized police k9 training facility in IL. Both dogs have done very well. One of them, at only 18 months of age and only a few months on the street competed in the Police K9 Olympics and did very very well. These are excellent working dogs!

Well spank me and call me Sally, LOL. There are in fact SL, working class, GSD's from Sch 3 VA and V parents for 2 generations that can actually produce GSD's capable of doing what WL GSD's have never stopped doing. In all seriousness congrats on producing working Police K9's. Now all you have to do is convince the other SL breeders to produce for working ability as well as asthetics. Because pretty ain't gonna make an apprehension or sniff out a bomb.

I would have to see it to believe it. I have seen all kinds of dogs have hunt drive, so maybe you got lucky there. Got any videos of these "excellent" working dogs ? I have seen way too many goofs on police depts to go along blindly with what you are saying.
However, at best, it is two dogs. 2. Not trying to make fun of you, but not really a convincing arguement. I have seen dogs on police depts that couldn't get to Sch3.

> Excellent reply Jeff!! Adog can look excellent in training but fail to perform on the street!

by viperk9 on 04 October 2010 - 01:10
Not asking you to blindly believe anything. I am not making an arguement, just a statement. You may think that I am just a goof and that is absolutely fine with me. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to politely and respectfully disagree. I don't have any recent videos but here are a few videos of the dogs while they were in training this spring. The bitework video is from the dogs 7th session of bitework and the drug videos where taken in the dogs 1st week of training with their new handlers.

This is the sire of the pup i was given as a teenager. He was everything I could want in a dog. Great tempermant, steady, confdent, courageuos, protective, loyal . He thought first before acting. Even at 14 I had no problem training
him. Are todays dogs like this? If so where can I find one?
