Beetree, either be direct, or drop your incessant $h!+-stirring. State your name, where you're from, how you know me, and what I have supposedly done and then I might have just an iota of respect for you. But this obsession you have with making every thread I post in ABOUT me (then pretending you don't want to derail), personally, is really wild. I have a really poor memory, apparently, as I cannot remember the names of those who died as a result of my gross negligence/memory lapses. Why don't YOU start the thread about me, since YOU seem to be the one so fascinated with me? If you were more logical, I'd swear you were a man!

I was just talking about my fears about these sorts of things and what I try to do in hopes that I can train my sub-conscious enough to overrule my conscious, as I thought I made abundantly clear.  Now, I need to go to work today and it's going to be 100 degrees here again, so I have a lot of work to do to make sure the dogs are all ok for the day and will not be posting until later tonight, so you can relax. Go for a walk or something, enjoy nature, leave your computer desk, play with your dog, whatever...life is short.

Let's try to remember what this thread was about. RIP Jeg & all the other victims.

LOL, yeah I know a little.

Completely inexcusable for both the cop and the mom.

I've got a terrible memory, but always remember my pets first, even if I don't realize it (something like autopilot that Jen mentioned?). I just gave up my favorite car for a newer one that was air conditioned because of my dog... poor car runs constantly while we are working in the disgusting heat so that she is cool (although I don't complain myself).

I have never understood how people can forget something so important and dependant on them and leave them to die in something as stupid as a hot car. Sad thing is, I don't even think a device like those mentioned would help (couldn't hurt, but...)... People are just that stupid and careless anymore. Perhaps a key that shocked them every minute or so if something was in the car? Maybe then they would remember. Sorry I have no mercy for stupidity.

RIP Jeg and the baby!

That's the thing, everyone thinks they are immune.....

"That's the thing, everyone thinks they are immune....."

And apparently, 99.99% of them are right!  Sorry, I am solidly with the no excuses crowd.  I am currently working to help our local PD start a new K9 program and the safety of the dogs is my absolute first priority.  Forgetting your patrol partner?  Really?

There is science behind it Keith. That's all I'm saying.

I never, ever rely on my AC running to keep my dogs safe.  Kids and dogs have died that way.  And yeah, NO ONE thinks it will happen to them.  If it's too hot for my dog to be in the vehicle if I've provided shade, water, and some ventilation then it's just.plain.too.hot.  Growing up we never had AC working in our houses or cars so it is not something I rely on or trust.  The AC in my current dog van does not work if the van is just parked or idling and the temperature is above 95 or so (which unfortunately it has been even in Michigan for quite some time).  I would never leave the car running and have all the windows and doors shut and walk away from my dog or a kid.

"I never, ever rely on my AC running to keep my dogs safe.  Kids and dogs have died that way.  And yeah, NO ONE thinks it will happen to them."

Which is precisely why a temperature alarm is a requisite I am pushing for in the local PD's K9 car.  They like the idea, especially since I'm recommending one with a door popper so the officer can let his dog out if he's on a call and needs him so it isn't a hard sell.

"I would never leave the car running and have all the windows and doors shut and walk away from my dog or a kid."

I do it periodically if I need to run in somewhere.  My Tahoe has remote start capability but it only works if the doors are locked and doesn't allow the truck to be put into gear so I can get out, lock the doors and start the truck and it will idle with the AC on for 10 minutes.  If I need to be in somewhere longer than that, I wait until I've taken the dog home and put him up and then make a separate trip.

Edit: The dog, by the way, is always in a crate in the back of the truck and the A/C is zoned with the temperature in the back set at 64 degrees.

Maybe it would make an impression on the cops if they were locked in a closed up car until they felt they were going to suffocate. I'm not being sarcastic, I'm serious. It would make an impression on them they would not be able to fore get, like what it feels like to almost drown, you never forget. Relying on electronic devises for reminder is not always dependable. The cop responsible needs to actually experience what it feels like to be locked in the death trap of a hot car. That's what is going to make them think twice. I hate hearing of this kind of crap, and Jenni is right, those are the same people supposed to be protecting us...they should be fired and jailed.

And every scientist, psychologist, teacher, doctor, trash collector, stock broker, mother or father who does it? What do we do with them? They are ourselves.
