PINERIDGE

gee wiz - i think its VERY RESPONSIBLE of diamond to do this "precautionary" recall-- another company would not - and wait for it to blow up in their face.  What I saw showed that it was a very small percentage of bags found affected - but yet they put a  bigger number of products on the list which cover a relatively short period of production time..  and  isn't it PEOPLE who handled the food who fell ill - and not many dogs?  need some clarification on that.
I work in a store that sells nearly every brand of food available - and we take everything back for ANY reason -- soo many people have had excellent results with TOTW -- i thiink they will get right back on it when they are back in production - we were told we would get product in again starting next week - today we pulled the limited "flavors" of CSoup - and Canadaie - and the NB products listed.   people should not over-react -- Didn't NUTRO have a  MUCH MUCH WORSE  catastrophe about 2 years ago with  many many  sick-- even dead dogs??  I don't feed any of these so I'm probably less reactive - but i know there is a  huge percentage of customers thankful they found TOTW after gong thru many other brands of crap.

SIDEBAR:  Earthborne may be good for some dogs in some formulas -- but I know people who have had problems with this food too --  pobody's nerfect -- I'm sure.

I have spent 3 months calling Cereal compainies as every cereal I want to eat has

High Fructose in it...Companies know it is bad for us and unless you call them and tell them they will never quit feeding us POISONS>>>

KELLOGS FINALY took  it out of two or three so far and promised they are removing it.

Call the DOG food companies.. WE have a right to voice our concerns.

Sorry Pineridge, Diamond was the dogfood company that denied they had tainted product that sickened & killed so very many pets. And from that they learned that they would be held financially responsible for such loss, & now are taking the 'high' road by voluntarily recalling...that way they will not suffer the financial loss. Time has told the tale, they no more cleaned up their facilities than they improved their ingredient sources, & our animals & our wallets pay the price. Sad to say, but the proof is in the, uh, kibble! jackie harris

Seriously consider transitioning to raw. Although my pup appeared to be thriving on one of the above mentioned grain free commercial foods, he may have been growing too fast. Went raw and have had equally good if not better results. Commercial food is dead due to processing. Do some research. No reason why you should not get good results from an all natural, raw diet.

Had issues with sickly allergic dog on TOTW.  Switched to Earthborne Holistic Lamb Grain Free about a month ago.   Best thing I ever did.  You can read some of my other posts about it.

Much-to-learn....where did you get the info about the Wellness puppy being recalled?

I just got an e-mail from Wellness stating this, but before I could not find anything.

May 5, 2012

Dear Pet Parents,

We want to let you know that we have announced a voluntary recall of one recipe of Wellness dry dog food. This voluntary recall is being done out of an abundance of caution as these products were produced at the Diamond Pet Foods facility that has been linked to recent recalls of Diamond brand foods due to the threat of Salmonella.

We test every batch of Wellness product produced before releasing it for sale. These lots were all tested and verified to be free of salmonella before they shipped to customers. While we stand by our testing and have no reason to believe there is a problem, we are voluntarily recalling this recipe with these best by dates out of an abundance of caution and to put our consumers’ minds at ease.

The lots involved in this voluntary recall are:

Wellness Complete Health® Super5Mix® Large Breed Puppy, 15 and 30 lb. bags and 5 oz. samples with best by dates of JAN 9 2013 through JAN 11 2013

No other recipes, sizes or WellPet brands of food are impacted by this voluntary recall.

Pet owners who are unsure if the product they purchased is included in the recall, would like replacement product or have additional questions, may call us at (877) 227-9587 (Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM through 6:00 PM Eastern time and Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 AM through 5:00 PM Eastern time).

Sincerely,

Wellness Natural Food for Pets

Perhaps the moral of the story, is that most pet foods are similar in quality, they are likely made from the same raw ingredients, at the same location. The differences are in the proportion of ingredients and the packaging.

Aak, Qira eats the Nature's Domain, but thankfully the other flavor... This makes me think to start checking the best by dates before throwing the bag away (we keep our pets' foods in tubs). Scary stuff...

Bee, You're absolutely correct. Feeding raw chicken subjects dogs and person handling it, to lots worse than salmonella. Asked my vet about this dog food scare and he said feed it and don't worry about it.
