Thanks GSD.

And, I didn't do anything yet with any set up disc, myself, because the regular start-up is now working. But the other day, the first thing the lady did was zap the PRAM again. She got two chimes, I don't know how, because I never did! Said they want three, like you said. I saw they were able to use their system somehow to get on my machine. They must have some special program?

The guy who actually did the work, said he had to reinstall the snow leopard system. And he also said, If I had any other problems or other problems creep up, he had some more tricks to perform to get it to run properly.

Yes, I understand "partitions", but I am a simple person, LOL  (And doesn't that slow your machine down, the many systems?) .....Or, maybe you are suggesting... he was setting up a secret unknown-to-mom system???

It might slow down the system a little but I have a newer system that can handle that extra work.

No, I am not suggesting a secret system but I would not put it past any kid. No, what I am saying is he gave you 2 stories and when you hear 2 stories over the same incident. I would be on the lookout for what was really going on.

When you were having the problems why didn't the setup disk work? That is the question. Just in case you should get another flash update so you can be better prepared and not have to spend another 100.00 to fix it.

GSD: Ok, isn't that the gerbil wheel I was chasing? I don't think I will ever know the answer but rather the kid will have been forced to get better at whatever he thought he wanted to do.

I do think I need to have a safer downloading discussion with the kid. Talk about checking system requirements, compatabiity. How to uninstall. (No porn downloads, ever... just in case someone was going down that road! And I think I would know just because the adverts would start to become obnoxious!)

And I suppose I could try a test boot with the system 10.6 disc I have, but the Yankee in me is screaming:
If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Ninja: The perpetrator just swam in the last season's HS swim meet and has no idea his "Mac" is back in action, yet....!

I am really hoping this has been a fluke and have no intention of paying $100 for a reboot, again, not if I can help it.

Ok GSD, here is the newest scoop: Wait a minute, now he says: EDITED***

****He wanted to play something called Minecraft. But a pop-up box said he needed to upgrade his Adobe Flash player. He said he'd never played it before on the Mac.  He clicked on the box, followed the buttons, downloaded the new Adobe Flash, it wanted a restart. He clicked okay. The machine shut down.

He tried to restart and ... you know the rest.

He still is quite niave with computers, he has simple wants and desires, for which I am glad. He had no idea what a partition was, so I'm going to finish my coffee and check out the versions, etc. etc..... See what I can clean up. Oh he says he's really only interested in something called "emulators".

I just checked the versions, it should not have been the Flash player, I agree!!!

Ok, he was trying to play, in the Chrome browser: Minecraft Classic (Outdated, but free) from their site: http://www.minecraft.net/

I just looked up emulators and gave myself a headache!  I became suspicious when my son smirked when he read over my shoulder, that I called him computer niave! LOL  Seems to me partitions, emulators, they both want to make something into something else!

I am pretty sure because he didn't want to spend his $30 to play Minecraft legally, I ended up paying $100 dollars just to get the machine back, working. GSD, would you agree to that?
