According to Brynjulf- "The insane barking is because at some point she won. So she has learned that if she just keeps it up long enough eventually you will give in. No quick fix on this one ace. Just put her in and leave her. It will stop eventually honest it will."
I know it's only been four nights (it sure feels longer!) but it's hard to believe that the barking will ever stop. We're committed to hanging in there; my husband refuses to be beat by a 10 week old pup (it's bizarrely personal for him).
Hard to believe something so cute can be so darn annoying.

How did LF do last night? Did you bop him over the head with that orange toy to get that photo?

Brynjulf-
Kind of like the old Lionel Richie song- he hysterically barks all night long and is so upset he vomits or has diarrhea (it's quite the party). If you tell me one more time that it's only been 4 nights then I'll tell everyone the truth- that you are really a man. :)
It was easy to snap the picture- he's totally exhausted in the morning!
Housetraining improved dramatically yesterday- I drag Senta out with LF and he's happy to pee outside. Go figure.
What do you think? I could name the pup Builder after the creators of the Leviathans.

"puppy barking....
stand in front of the crate,
when puppy barks turn your back to the puppy.
when puppy is quiet turn around and give treats.
puppy learns that quiet is good.
when walking up to the crate,
puppy barks turn around and walk a few steps away
when puppy quiets face puppy and walk a few steps closer
ear plugs required!"
LMAO, that may work for some of the softer showlines,
but no match for a workingline pup, sorry.
Ace & Laura, my advice? DRINK!
We were getting mix/match case discounts after
the newest one got here ;)

I am no longer getting the barking all night. Her crate is now out of the garage and in the diningroom. So much peace at night. If I wake up in the middle of the night I take her out to use the bathroom and then let her sleep in my room outside of the crate. Not too bad so far. I wish I didn't have to have her in a crate 9 hours of the day due to me being at work but I have no choice.
Right now I'm trying to figure out how I will keep her away from my male as she comes into her first heat. I never wanted to be a prison warden but it is the mindset you gotta have to avoid any mistakes.

@GSDPACK- Ha!
I've heard from a few folks about my post above. I understand why it sounds like I'm a really awful person- allowing a very upset puppy to cry for hours alone. There seems to be two very distinct schools of thoughts on crate training- you either allow the pup to cry it out alone no matter how long it takes or you crate the pup in your room. I have zero idea what school of thought is "right" since I still have so much to learn about GSDs. However, after speaking to the pup's breeder last night, I chose to crate the puppy in my room. He didn't cry at all during the night so perhaps this is the correct route for this particular puppy. Alternatively, perhaps I "gave in/am weak" and am headed straight down the road to doom with my pup. I guess we will all see together. :)

I personally see nothing wrong with a dog barking all night. We all like to say that GSD's are smart and therefore they should figure it out that barking doesn't get them out of the crate. I know some may not like that approach especially if the dog goes on for hours but hey, it has to learn.
If I have to keep the dog near me at night to stop barking then I maybe worried that the dog will always need to be around me. I keep my dogs where their crates will always be. My reasoning is that they sleep where their crates will always be. My crates are in the livingroom so I keep them there. My female is the one I had to go from the garage to now the diningroom and then next will be right in the livingroom next to my other dogs crate.
