Chaz...I too love my quail cowboy boots ....I just can not bear the thought of any animal suffering in the process...:(

The whole subject is too sad for me to make comments....Kelly is absolutely right the whole world sucks in it's treatment of animals, and people too for that matter...: (

I get your point, Rik, but not every Chinese person condones such practices. As for our animal welfare laws in the US? If anyone really thinks they work, you live in a fantasy land. We have entire industries in this county that could care less how the animals are treated. Individual abusers get a slap on the wrist at best most times. I am far from self righteous or proud of a system that is painfully broken. Getting indignant over cruelties done a world away is a waste of time when we have problems in our own backyard. Courage's owner has yet to see a courtroom. Vick got a reality show and a new NFL contract. Wonder how the fire chief who bashed in a puppy's head is doing, or the cops who drove a dog into a burning building to die. Our little DDR-DSH, after starving all those dogs, walked to do it AGAIN- and even to her own mother! The system is BROKEN. Maybe we should fix it before pointing fingers at anyone else.

Very good points and have to agree with Von Steve and Jenni.

lol@Chaz

USA should never point the finger at anyone with all that sh*t that goes on here.  Watch 20/20...Nightline..Dateline and you can see disjusting things done to many animals.

Man who lives in glass house shouldn't throw rocks and should get dressed in the basement.

no, you do not get my point. you are pointing at the acts of individuals and making the case that the U.S. condones such actions. That is no different than saying that because there are individuals in the U.S. that commit murder, rape etc. then we are a nation of rapists and murderers.

And I am not indignant, I am sick in my heart over things like this. There are also cultures who consider it appropriate to stone young girls who are raped, kill their children if they feel they are not following tradition. That's just how they roll, so I guess it's o.k.

I do understand Rik, I just don't agree that every Chinese person thinks this is ok. There are animal lovers there, too! Maybe they are outnumbered and their government sanctions this kind of thing, even so, I cannot bring myself to label anyone. I never will, so we have to agree to disagree here.

Our country is a load of trouble from trying to police everyone else on so many levels and the honest truth is there is very little any of us can do about atrocities like this. Don't sell a dog to China, yeah, ok, I hardly ever sell my dogs out of state, let alone country. But we CAN do something about what happens here. When our legal system allows pices of crap like Kimberly Nizato and Glynn Johnson to get away with unfathomable cruelty, it is being condonded. Not by individuals like you or me, but by our "justice" system.

Does the picture make me sad? A little. It's hard to get emotional when I've dealt with cruelty firsthand. I've retrained a beaten little chihuahua mix who was found locked in a closet with his mouth duct taped shut. I've done house calls with a rat terrier who was thrown from a car going 30+ mph, causing severe neck/back injuries, and every day at work I see a little pit bull puppy, found abandoned and horrifyingly emaciated, his legs malformed from malnutrition and likely being stuffed in a crate too small. He is being nursed back to health at the facility, they were afraid to turn him in to animal control for fear of him being euthanized. And the list could go on, my friend.

Some people are lucky. The only abused animals they see are on TV or in a news story. Lucky them. I see horror with my own eyes regularly and perhaps I am just desensitized to a mere photo on the internet. I hope that doesn't make appear to be cold and heartless, I just feel my energy is better spent elsewhere.

ok, I got you. I didn't say every chinese person agrees or disagrees with thi, I have no ideas. you said this. I said it was acceptable as a culture. the only chinese people I know are at the Peking resturant and I never order the hot dog special.

and i'm pretty sure Courage didn't rescue himself. and I'm pretty sure he didn't nurse himself back to health and I'm pretty sure he is not being fattened up for fourth of July bar-b-q. so, you  go on thinking what a horrible country you live in and I'll go on thinking it's the greatest in the world.

best,
Rik

Don't put words into my mouth, Rik. Just because I see the flaws in our justice system, I think it's a horrible country? I love a good, heated respectful debate between adults. It's good for the mind. But if that's where we're digressing here, see you later.
