Gayle,
Thank you for the update regarding Julie. She is a WONDERFUL person/photographer/breeder and I hope her well!! I am sure everyone that posted was unaware of her present condition as most people want to keep their personal issues private (ie not post on PDB) and this fact was not disclosed to them when asked about the photos. I can speak for myself and say I thought that the official photographer was compensated for his/her time and that I indeed WOULD have paid extra if Ihad known he/she was not....I know that this was MY FIRST TIME presenting a dog in the working class as well as for most all of the owner's of Ricco's progeny...For them, a picture of their family member/pet/show dog was perhaps worth more than a trophy.. . As a newcomber in the "show world", I am constantly reminded of the proverb,,, "Whose house is of glasse, must not throw stones at another"..... I need not say more...

No one was attacking Julie. Just some very excited owners expressing some disappointment. Please don't make a mountain out of a molehill. Surely even a seasoned exhibitor like yourself can remember being ever so excited to see pictures of your own dog(s) from a SS.
Anyone who was in attendance could see the hard work and effort from the photographers, and we are v ery grateful for their service and effort.
Yes, I was also aware that Julie was dealing with some personal issues, but did not feel it appropriate to broadcast on this site.

I am sorry if you interpreted my dissapointment as some sort of attack; such was not my intent. Hopefully, we can dispense with any drama and discuss the issues you raise rationally.
"The NASS photographic entourage involved several photographers, all of whose photos (many thousands of which) remain to be fully collated and edited. Anyone who has done this kind of work--even on an extremely small scale--can well testify to the number of hours involved."
As it happens, I do have some experience in this domain, having photographed a wide variety of events for local periodicals/websites in addition to several years' experience as an aerial photographer/videographer in the skydiving community. Yes, the process can be time consuming but it can also be streamlined using the appropriate tools. Both Nikon Capture, the sister software product to Nikon Digital SLR's, and Adobe Photoshop, the de facto standard for professional photo editing, have batch functionality that will very quickly and adequately process 95% of all properly exposed and framed images automatically while leaving the original image intact. Photoshop can also create accompanying thumbnails and index pages, all of which can then be migrated to a web site as a package.
"Our selfish, instant gratification culture, however, demands to see event photos ASAP. Does anyone want to pay for this service?"
I couldn't help but get a little chuckle out of the irony of your use of the word "selfish" in a discussion relating to a dog show as I can't believe that any of the dogs involved would choose to be running around a ring trying to find and follow his/her owner as opposed to doing, well, just about anything else. To be sure, the dog shows are mostly about us...the dogs really don't care. I wouldn't necessarily characterize two weeks as "instant gratification" but that notwithstanding, my expectation is that I will be paying for this service; is that incorrect?
"How much was the "Official NASS Photographer" paid for her services in advance? Answer: Nothing."
Very true but I'm fairly certain that she knew that when she asked for the job and expects to ultimately be compensated for her efforts.
All else aside, please extend my best wishes to Julie for a speedy recovery and let her know that if there is anything I can do to help her work through her backlog, I am more than willing to lend a hand...gratis.
Regards,
Keith Grossman
