Moons,
My Nietzsche  commit.....I thought the spoon
was in response to that.....It was meant in in fun.

Disclaimer...there is no resemblance.....maybe a little.

Moons,
I think to some degree we may be looking at
alpha male dogs that have been bred year after year
to raise the aggression and courage of the the breed.
I was very fortunate in my young days to get the low down
on breeding for a good blend of temperament and
conformation. The German breeds hard and soft to keep
a good mind. But learning through the Belgium trainers
I found out that some very temperamental dogs are very
receptive to training on a different level. This is the
way Germans use to train before wwll. Though the dogs
I choose have very high aggression they are in need
of a leader.....an alpha for ultra alpha's so to speak. Once
you acclimate to that type of dog and training, you never
go with anything else. You are at the top of your game
and very hard to beat.

Antecedent behaviors, the precursors that tell you
what the dog is feeling.

Hair on back goes up.....

upper lip resides and shows his fangs...

back is very rigid.

tail is curled upward..

But with some dogs they show no signs of fear.
And can go from half a sleep to ripping your heart out and eating it.
Very confident dogs. This is an alpha male.

Max, I fould your post above very intriguing. Can you please explain it a bit better?  What sort of training methods do you use with a very alpha dog, which is the sort of dog you prefer?

And that's interesting that the Germans bred hard dogs to soft to keep a good balance with temperment.

Re. dogs and wolves...as a wolf matures, it reaches the age where it challenges other wolves to find its place in the pack. This happens to a lesser extent with our dogs. It's a characteristic most people would NOT want to select for.  However, dogs that have a stronger strain of wolf blood (husky and chow, for example) are more likely to seriously challenge their owner, to the point of physically attacking them.

So, that's another significant difference in behaviour between the wolf and dog

And the above is just my personal opinion, from stories I've heard from people who own these breeds. I have no personal experience with the breeds.  I DO know that the chow rates very high in the number of reported dog bites.

Sunsilver,
I know the dog I like in a heart beat. It is one who
is calm, but checking things out. His confidence and aggression
will tell all I need....This is  to much dog for most people, but
this is the dog I look for.

I notice a slightly higher Metabolic rate, very fast runners, with good
muscle tone. Calm calculating......Very dangerous, without training.

I have seen alpha males avoid young male until the time was right
to teach them a lessen in manners. It looks like they are backing
down but what it really is....their not afraid.....Cool Breeze!
Conservation of energy and wisdom go hand and hand.

Like the Eastern Timber Wolf.....
