I have been right where you are and do not feel bad! I was told to not bring my girl back and waste theri time!  Feel good that you will now get the proper training! Don.t you dare get discouraged or depressed! You have the best dog in the whole world and your dog deserves the best training you can get!

Ruger,

My apologies.

I had not seen your original post in which you asked for PM's from Pro's to direct you to professional trainers.

Had I seen that  before I inferred what the problem was from posts prior to mine and offered my own advice I would have said nothing, as I am definitely not Pro at dog training.

Sincere Apologies,

SteveO, You did not see the original post, because it disappeared..lol....To answer your question, I gave a leash correction like Slamdunc said, makes him yelp. Also,a trainer that came to the house corrected him once and also made him yelp....No leash climbing then....I was walking him along the horse pasture and he got the tips of his ears on the electric horse fence. He freaked out and looked like he wanted to attack something...but NEVER directed toward me.......

Well, one of my GSD who weighs about 80 lbs. screams his head off when I pick up his foot.   Some of them, esp. as young dogs, do tend to be screamers, and he probably also quickly learned that if he screams like his tail's being nailed to the floor you quickly back off.  I think you're misinterpreting the yelp a tad.

No waleed, that is not the truth, not even close.

Great post Jim.

Ruger, I"ve had dogs like that.   It can be controlled, you just have to take the leadership  position.

waleed,,,You might be right about his temperament. However, he does not have a bad temperament with our family .........

Tess.....You might be right, But he never cries over anything else.......

Red Sable,,,I pray your right,,,Our family loves this guy. We lost our 13 month old male GSD last year. We were devastated. We want to do everything to control this with Prince...

He's just at that maturing age, and honestly, it sounds like he is fear aggressive.  I don't believe that  he will ever come up the leash at you.  I think your family is safe, however, I wouldn't force strangers on him.  I like KCzaja's idea of a muzzle, that is a great idea, and a safe way to introduce him to visitors.

Know that fixing fear-aggression requires more than just yanking the dogs head off when he gets growly.
