This really bothers me because my girl is 7.5 years old (just got into the sport in the last year) and it was probably her one and only chance to get to any regionals.

There is still a chance, maybe by next year there will be more interest and enough entries to host a Regionals.  My girl Cali was just a couple weeks shy of her 9th birthday when she earned her PSA1.

Hey "hunter", are you going to trial Tweak?

Vom Marischal
You should make the trip, it will be a good one.

Tim and Tweak will hit the sch feild next year. Her OB and tracking is looking very nice.

Thanks Malndobe, I'll keep going til she looks like she's heading downhill. So far she still hits like a rock.

Ali is far from retiring Jacky, that bitch out runs and outhits my male 1/2 her age.

by VomMarischal on 01 September 2010 - 17:09

Well I don't know about THAT, Pack! She's still strong but I hate to run her into the ground. I do appreciate the vote of confidence. I will definitely keep working on her...and working on getting rid of two of the granddaughters. I decided I'm keeping Caley-Jane only.

Hey Ally bit heck out of my arm last night. I am going to start looking like a cutter.

I need to respectfully add something here.
I have worked with Darryl, he in no way, form or fashion will hurt your dog or be irresponsible, endangering your dog in any way. And certainly not on purpose. That is not the person that has worked my dogs and I would not expect him to be on years of knowing him in person either! If I thought for a minute he would be, there is no way in hell that I could not find something to do with my dogs that does not require his expertise.
What was said at the seminar the Phil went to, I have no clue. And I will add, I did not read his post to say that Darryl had stated this but that this supposedly was said at a seminar with Darryl. But just to make sure.
I have personally heard Darryl more often than I can count stress the fact how important catching the dogs safely is.

I may have my own issues with some attitudes (I don't own a super tough dog) towards people like me that really just work the dogs for fun and education. In any sport. Seems like PSA and a few others are almost discouraging in the way that they are touted as the "super tough" sports. Be that as it may, this attitude will always restrict a sports ability to become more popular and to maintain a reasonable member base that allows for more access to training, trials and other related events.

As far as macho egos, fools and simply inexperienced people, they are in all sports and with any luck you will never run into one.

Thanks, Goose. I think that was an extremely helpful post, and food for thought.

 Phil,

Might I ask who you heard this information coming from or is it possible that you misunderstood something that was being said? Darryl Richey has worked with my dogs for nearly 6 years now and if there is 1 thing that he preaches constantly when working with new decoys, it is moving your body with the impact to absorb the dog.  Safety to the dog is always his #1 concern.  Any sport unfortunately will have decoys that do not have the best interest of the dog in mind at times-as is the fact of life and dog sports.

by tbm1874 on 01 September 2010 - 19:09

"The decoys are hand picked for trials, they love the dogs and the people that own them.

There was a 17 year old kid around here who joined our club. She was a VERY novice decoy. NOthing against her, she's fine, but she just lacked what it takes to be a good decoy. My understanding is she sent in a video of herself working one dog, became a top level and "teaching" decoy.

No thanks."

Diane, I can say 100% without a doubt that the above scenario is completely false.  There are no certified decoys in PSA that are female and no one receives certification based on a video.

Darryl is all about safety of the decoys, dogs and people.

I would like to also add that only 2 or 3 decoys passed at that PSA Decoy Seminar.
