I remember the FBI wanted to go completely to the 10mm before settling on the 40SW, and think it had to do with the basis of this report, released in 1989....

Wow, a gun thread.....lol
If only the Tokarev was a little more modern.
Powerful little bastard.

But if the round passes through it stops nothing unless it's a kill shot.

Control and accuracy mean more than anything.    Unless your throwing the kitchen sink at someone.

I choose what I am used to, what I can hit with, practice makes perfect.

The Gold DOT from Speer is the most effective hand gun projectile out there as far as I'm concerned as I have tested pretty much all of them over the years.

Not for penetration but function, they remain intact %100 and they don't open until impact.
A  .45 acp will open to about the size of a coke bottle cap.

I almost bought a Tokarev at the last gun show, definitely an interesting round.

FBI cadets couldnt handle the 10mm and why they went to 40.
Still a fine caliber..
The switch was purely political, and to save face from the disaster known as the Miami shootout.
9mm penetrates more than 40 and 45 anyway.

'The shootout involved ten people: two suspects and eight FBI agents.
The incident lasted more than four minutes and approximately 145 shots were exchanged.

Hey Moons.

Reeds Ammo makes Tokarev 7.62 x 25 in Hollow Point, in either Gold Dots or Hornady XTPs.

Excellent deer or 2 legged bad guy load, and in FMJ you have a bear load, or hand load flat points.

1600-2000 fps is no joke, its a magnum load that literally breathes fire, my favorite and boringly reliable.

Knock down as a myth is not completely correct in my opinion.

I have seen the Tokarev round go through 1/4" steel, surplus ammo.

Was considering customizing one once, it can be improved with some work.

Where's the dog Paden?

Typically the argument for a larger caliber's effectiveness is more bleeding from a larger diameter hole. But wouldn't penetration be considered just as damage inflicting (via blood loss) as a larger round? A deeper penetrating round could hit several organs and create blood loss in a "deeper" as opposed to "wider" wound.

And again, shot placement being key.

Big guns big holes great,
making the shot priceless.

Yeah where you shoot makes all the difference in the world.

That poor dog....

While on the "gun" thread, my nephew gave me a great t-shirt for Christmas last year... It says:
