I would also want to add.....that breeding and "owning" are two seperate things.
Just because someone would choose to "own".....does not mean it is justified to be "bred".
The standard for any breed should be a guideline in breeding......(again, another topic).

Oh Sunsilver he is very handsome. He is just very far away. My sons are 3yrs. old and 2yrs. old. I have to be soooo careful about the dog I bring into my home. If i did not have such young kids i would be more open to adopting an older dog.
In a perfect world another great dog would fall into my life the way Abbie did. But that is a once in a life time, truely a gift :). Now I have to be selective and do my homework and find the right breeder. It can be a little intimidating. I have had the opportunity to chat with some great and knowledgeable folks.
I know what i want. I want a smart, loving, semi-mellow female GSD. Coat color is not overly important but the lighter dogs are pretty to me and I was concerned about a dark coat and the hot hot southern sun. Who knows, that may make no difference. I also want a dog that will bark when people come to the door and has enough oomph to deter the bad guys. This future pup will live in my home and be spoiled and played with daily. I am looking for a companion, an addition to may family. We need a companion, not a champion. I am share this dog will spend many an evening snugging on the couch with my boys watching Disney videos after a long day playing at the beach...lol
All in all I thing I have recieved some great information from many of you and it has really helped me as i start this quest. When we find our little biscuit eater you all will be some of the first to know. I can not thank you all enough. It is so great to have the access to such a great community of GSD people.
