I just shot coffee thru my nose...you two are hysterical!

by VomMarischal on 14 July 2010 - 17:07

Sam, Stacy is not a collector, and no, this doesn't make 6. It makes 5, which is what she had planned all along. Not to worry; she's not going out of control.

by Sam Spade on 14 July 2010 - 19:07

Ikm not worried, just curious where you find the time for all those dogs.

Hey guys,

Now, that's a thought..I usually use really thick cargo pants or jeans but it's really warn here though. I'll try to find the equivalent and see how it works out.

Stacy, have fun with the pups...I'm with the others..how do you find time for the whole pack? You have 5 dogs and..how many kids??? I handle 2...dogs and it's a real time constraint.

Steve1,
Thanks for posting the pics. Hmm..I know this is hard but is it possible for you to describe the material?
Gina looks like she's growing up real fine.

As for the apron, it is still something I am weighing out. I find it a little cumbersome to train with..vs the bruises/scratches I get from the dogs.  Comfort/Ease of training vs minor "injury". I'm gonna try other alternatives first.  Long time ago I used to wear dungarees under my vest. That seems to help also.

And yes, that's Eric,( with my older male)..from your neck of the woods  :)
Do you train with him often?

Lexa
Yes, Eric is a friend of mine and we train at the same Club he does helper work for the Pups when he is not working on training nights, a very nice Guy, he is handling D,Jack the daddy of the Puppy Stacy has gone to collect at the airport and he is doing very well with him at the highest level he is a fabulous Dog.  D,jack was the daddy of my little Heidi also
I think for Stacy looking at her Legs etc she certainly needs some protection there and it is worth using the Apron just to stop the bruising and cuts, I think if it continues she will be focusing more on not being hit by the Dogs than concentrating on the work in hand, That would be a great shame for she is very keen to do well and is not afraid of the work involved
The Dickie's i bought in the UK same label i guessed they were a firm from the USA are 50% polyester and 50% cotton very durable and hard wearing, I think Gina will make a great Sch prospect she is fearless but a very intelligent Puppy, I am very happy to be owning both her and Izzy if they fail at the sport it will be because of me and what i am doing

Hi steve1,

I hope you can do me this favour..The next time you see Eric, pls let him know that Axel & Brynna miss him very much. I agree, he is a very nice guy. Unfortunately, I only get to train with him a couple times a year...if I'm lucky! :(

Don't get me wrong, I think you can try the apron as well. I was jus sharing my personal opinion of what I have tried before.  But if she is willing to handle/train 5 dogs..a couple of bruises and scratches will not change much. Not saying it's a good thing to get the bruises but you know what I mean ;) I think on the extreme end you can also use shin guards, the ones used for football. :S

With all due respect, I think that is usually what happens. The handlers, or personally me, are not there yet to bring up the dog/pup to it's fullest potential.

Do share more pictures of them growing up ok? I would love to see them.

Ok, back to the topic. I will go try the Dickies or something similar. The other thing that got me thinking, is perhaps using those work jumpsuits. Those cover the arms as well. A little warm though.

Hello,
Just got back to this thread. :-)
Yes, like VM said I had a plan with my pack of 5. Two males and three females. I have a schedule and a plan for almost everything I do. Could be the OCD :-) Except for one, all of my dogs were chosen for very specific reasons influenced by their pedigrees. And the one that wasn't, was a nice opportunity with a pedigree that I like very much. Even still, I did not make the decision to get her lightly and lost sleep dwelling over how I would make time for her.

I knew people would use the word either "collector" (kinda like a euphamism for hoarder? Or is it the ugly cousin?) haha, which is why I named my new pup JUDGE :-)

I have two kids. My ex and I have split custody of my 12 year old son and my three year old lives with my husband and me.
How do I have time to train all these dog?
I don't have it, I make it LOL
But that means sacrafices. And a lot of them.
I don't go out with the girls, on vacations or weekend getaways, I don't get a lot of sleep, especially since I live in the desert and I can't train during the day, so I have to go late at night (after 9 pm) And I take at least two dogs with me, several times a week if not every night, even on nights I go to my job ... I work with the dogs in my livingroom too. They are all house broken (except the new puppy)  and even have pretty decent house manners for what they are haha!
I have said many times over, I went to working my job only a few hours a week to make time for my dogs. (And now I'm working on a plan for working from my home) Because I feel like that 4 hours a few times a week that I am at work I could be spending with the family and the dogs...
So another sacrafice: No extra money for shoes, purses, manacures, the latest fashions, the things most women would rather have, instead of another dog to feed, vaccinate, clean up after and train... Nope, all my extra money (pretty much the money I work for) goes back into the dogs. The eat a raw diet, are kept current on all vaccinations a dewormings, have training fees and/or helper fees, gas to get back and forth to training.
But that's just how I do it. I have no idea how the people with kennels of 10, 15 and 20 dogs do it (the ones who don't hire any help.)
I may be "behind" the training schedules (BHs and titles all by a certain age) of people who get one dog at a time and title it, but I'm okay with that. The only dog getting pushed right now is my three year old male. We go for our BH in September, and then Indi will be a couple of months behind him.  I am pretty sure my other dogs are okay with it too. They are all treated equally and when they are not being worked they are a part of my family and not locked out back in a kennel for the other 23 hours of the day.
Like I said before, some people choose to have 5 kids and two dogs... I think that's way harder and wonder how they do it

Hey Stacy,

Looks like Judge is a fine little puppy ( from the other thread).
I must say that I have the up most respect for you.

You are 200% right on that..it's a matter of commitment and sacrifices. Although I do something similar, but I am no where near the level you are. I used to think that I "wasn't too bad" in the sense that most of my free time ( I also work)  goes to the dogs first, and if I had more time, then maybe spending time with family/friends. Usually, the dogs take up most of the time and barely any goes to family/friends. I train anywhere from 3-5 times a week and on the weekends I drive to my favourite club, 3 hours away.

Looking at how I spend my time with the dogs now, it's amazing how you manage kids into that equation.

It's amazing that you can do that while still raising a family ( the human kind!). Although I don't have kids, I can see that all my other club training members take a huge back seat once they start a family. The real active ones are those who are single, no kids or those with kids all grown up.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is : Kudos to you and keep up the amazing job!!

P.S. Gee, I've been using the word 'amazing" so many times..but there's no other word to describe you!

I appreciate the very, very nice words, and it is humbling Lexa, You are very kind hearted to say those things, since many people have said some really rude things about how many dogs I have and nothing about whether they look healthy, happy and well loved (and Lord knows I post a LOT of pictures)
But let me assure you, I am no superwoman. I have days where I don't pick up poop, days I skip training altogether and oh I dunno read a book :-) ...
Some days I don't spend enough time with my family, my husband pointed out that I have more pictures of my dogs than of my kids, and he was right  :-(
Some days I make my husband cook after he's  had a long day at work and a long commute home. My dishes are always piled high. "I don't have the most spotless house" would be the understatement of the year. If you eat a meal at my house, you'll probably find a dog hair in it :-)
And I have many character flaws too. I am very selfish and bossy. I am overly sensitive and take things said on here personally a lot... *shrugs* There are a lot of things I do wrong or backwards. And I don't prioritize very well either...
Nonetheless, your words were touching and meant a lot to me. Thank You
I hope some day in a few years I can have a few titles and really be proud and know that all the sacrafices and lost friends (from declining every social offer for the last 6 months) will not have been for nothing

All the best to you and yours,
Stacy
