Quote: I must have searched the pedigrees of at least 50 showlines tonight, searching for the Fedor von Arminius and Mark vom Haus Beck.....they are in almost every one i checked....some many many times in the 5/6 generations of most. Is it like this on most?....I'm amazed! Why such a small gene pool?
It is my understanding that the showline breeders were breeding for a certain type and whatever dog was "in vogue" at the time was the stud of choice. The problem of course is that both the good and bad is passed on 4 and 5 fold. I think things are changing, but I am no expert. I would post this question on a separate thread. There are some very knowledgeable people on this board who could probably explain it very well.
As for the question about whether or not temperature and humidity changes influence the chewing and scratching, I would have to say maybe yes :). So, the weather is different today than yestyerday and the dog is scratching more...so is it the weather or something else? I don't know! I've never been able to identify any specific pattern. These allergy dogs constantly keep us guessing :(

Waiting on the thyroid test now.....if this comes up negative....we shall try the Atopica Capsules next. Very expensive, but if they work it will be worth it. It seems after researching it, that there are far fewer and less severe side effects then going the steroid route again. The "Test Group" is to start in May. Will update as we get results.
