A new topic?

Ulf,
Thank you for sharing pictures of the amazingly beautiful and powerful Lenz. I loved looking at his pedigree and was not surprised to see many of my favorites Don Rolandsteich appears twice in the 5th generation, Marko Cellarland.....and Canto Arminius.
I really like the variety. Obviously, dogs are chosen in herding for their abilities and thus, the variety.
I predict with our litigious society and the push against "vicious" dog breeds increasingly including Shepherds, herding may have a new level of interest.
My first shepherd had the beginning herding AKC title (HCT I think). He had a mixed up pedigree that included American working dogs from sheep ranches in the south west. It is a shame that they get no respect. Probably most of the former sheep ranches have been turned into outer suburbs of LA by now,
I wonder if there are sheep ranches in Arizona.
Thank you for sharing,
Michele

<< Quite the prick when ya wanna be, aren't ya?>>
Yep…..and you surely deserved it and you got lucky because you got the humorous version of my prickliness. It may very well be that sheep herders in Montana don’t have a use for a tending dog. So what? The topic isn’t sheep herders in Montana. If you wanna be a sheep herder in Montana go out there, pay your dues and then report back to us.
Daryl, here is the problem as I see it: Discussion boards discourage those who know something about a topic due to their experience because people without any experience are notorious for trying to elevate themselves by belittling and questioning others, never attempting to engage in a serious discussion. All your posts seem to have that undertone while a look at your website shows that you do not have experience in titling dogs in any venue. Now, that is fine, don’t get me wrong. You are not obligated to have any record of titling dogs to participate. But you don’t need to belittle the experience of others. I don’t claim for myself that I know it all but I do have collected some experience over the years and some want me to share that experience and I like to share it.
Molly has never claimed to be an expert in herding. She enjoys it and she is obviously proud of the HGH title her dog earned. So, no need snapping at her when you see you can’t take me on. However, Molly is an accomplished SchH trainer and she has walked the walk. One can disagree with what she breeds or how she trains if one wishes but you cannot deny her her accomplishments.
This sniping is why I am always so hesitant engaging in these discussions. The feedback I am receiving from others tells me my input is mostly appreciated. So, I keep posting. You can choose if you wish to be part of it and I gladly answer your questions if they are honest questions and not another set up or, if you keep it up, I will choose to ignore you. You choose.
So, shall we all get back to civilized discussions? I have been enjoying the serious questions.
Ulf

It had to happen sooner or later.
I guessed the reason for posting in the other section as well.
Moons.
P.S.
So..... this thread is dead now?
I expected more genuine information and less promotion.
Some answers were kort and seemed guarded.
I think it was the promoting that turned the tables here.

All last year, I spent a couple hours a day, two and sometimes three days a week working five very different different dogs with livestock. Primarily two dogs, but the other three had a couple months training each. Just because you don't consider AKC or AHBA as worthy as HGH, doesn't mean the work was effortless. I could care less about titles than learning the actual work, but I did gain one title, and the 1st leg of three other titles, but most of the time was spent preparing for the C course coming this spring. Oh well, my life suddenly changed, and I've moved back to MT.
In the "real world", there's far simpler ways to test your dog's ability to withstand pressure or give off presence, than to bring MORE harmless furballs onto the field. I gave you the respect you deserve, you tossed in the smart alec remarks probably because I was disagreeing with your girl, whose best logical argument is "just because", when questioned why she thinks HGH is more difficult and all the rest is a joke. That's why she pulled you on here, right? If she had any actual experience at all, she could probably say more than "just because", and be taken more seriously without coming off as a pitiful attempt at self promotion, because of the dog YOU titled. Having 3 or 4 litters at a time, I'm sure she's put more worthess crap out there than I ever will, either. You want to be civilized? Me too, if you'd quit being so damn defensive and reading my every statement as an attack or insult on you.
Initially, before I chose another venue, I was actually very interested in further promoting herding and tending sport in this part of the country. There's more land and more livestock (and real wolves) to start up several HGH clubs within an hours drive from here. When you have real predators in your backyard, the livestock is more reactive I'm sure, than the comfort level your flock's accustomed to. I can at least say that, AKC and AHBA people are more supportive to spreading the interest and keeping you going, because that eliteist attitude is a real turn off.

All this concern for titles,
I just love to see them work.
And a dog who really does the work day in and day out means so much more to me than any title.
Good information and knowledge is always welcome along with real working experiences.
This is what I thought would be shared here.
Plus I have always admired a real working Pyrenees.

Ulf, my friend has a Berger de Maremme for guarding the flocks...did you heard of those? they look a lot like pyrenes..actually she told me she didn't look for a Great Pyrenes because a lot of them just coud not do the job anymore..I'm glad to see that it is not true!
You said he would kill one of your dog if he saw one..just a question (maybe it is a ridiculous one but...) Someone told me it is because shepherd ressemble to much like coyotes and wolfs?? Now I don't think it is quite that..could you explain please and is there some that are capable of accepting GSD by their sides...
Thank you.. Julie

I for one was interested to find out what the difference was between AKC and HGH titles.
I also find herding a very interesting topic that I would like to learn more about.
