Crate the cat and see what the dog does, investagate or wanting to kill.
I still say she has made her own toy. I had a GSD and a parrot that use to get along, shocked the dickens out of me. That darn bird belonged to my daughter, and it hated everyone else in the house, I use to see the 2 of them all around the house cuddled or he rode her back. Then came the young Rottie, he loved that toy, it moved, it flew, until he caught it when we thought the bird was put up and they were on 2 different floors. It happens so fast, so I would find out soon, maybe if you crate cat and teach dog.

Tsk Tsk  You folks need to keep your drama to yourselves and not high jack other people's threads.  Use a little common courtesy, please.  The rest of us do not care about what he-said, she said.  Pathetic.

Sorry Sitasmom
Wasn't trying to hi-jack anything. I just really can't take this crap. if you have read skullmans posts lately, he has attacked my 80 year old mother, repeatedly. She is in the hospital with cancer, and I have been there all week.
Enough is enough with this already.

Anyway, DON'T trust that new dog, with your old cat, please!!

You need to get a cat with no legs and the dogs simply can't chase it.

Here is my cat with no legs.

LOL!  Seems happy though!

Ninja, you look great in your avatar.  All geared up for tonight?  What kind of mileage do you get with that thing?

LOL Red Sable!

That's a hybrid broom, I plug it in at night, so no mileage figures are available. I tried to take it across the border and they sent the Provenchial Police after me.

I don't know who is older, me or the witch in the avatar. I tried to figure out my age in dog years once and the calculator broke. LOL

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Here's the group I'm taking trick a treating. They are ready to roll.

Sitasmom,

I just thought of something that might work for your situation. You can use those territorial e-zones in your son's room and create a safe zone for kitty. Instead of zapping dog for chasing cat, dog learns to just avoid the cat room, so issues like leaving the door open are okay. My sis does this with her A. cattledog and her daughter's cat. She is not what I would call dog savvy in any way, but loves to use technology. Supposedly somebody she paid gave her this solution. I'll have to ask her, but maybe you can wire the cat so the territory goes with her! This might work if you have other dogs who won't be staying for a long time but want to have the inside experience.
