Crys, I'm in the same boat. Live in a rural area in a right wing state. Have a older truck for hunting and puttering. But, if I need to travel I have a Camry hybrid built in Ky.There is nothing stopping GM or Ford from building a truck that runs partially on diesel or gas combined with electric motors. Electric motors produce more torque than gas or diesel. They could make quiet off road vehicle that could carry whatever you need. The Chevy volt is 20 years to late and too expensive for most. but, they could put engineers too work and build a truck the same way. You would use the battery for first 40 miles or so. Then smaller gas or diesel engine kicks in providing enough current to charge the battery and operate the truck. In an emergency you could also use the vehicle to power your house. The driving pattern in this country show 70 to 80% drive less than 20 miles a day. So these vehicles could be recharged at home or work. Most would never use much gas or diesel. We have fallen behind Europe and Asia and need to not just catch up but move ahead.

I don't mean to be so negative but thats what I see.
At least thats what I'm willing to say about some of what I see.
Its not going to be pretty and I'll leave it at that.
Best we learn to get along with each other now.
And use what little intelligence we have sorting through the mess.
Common sense seems to be in very short supply.
Anyway, I'm done here.
Least for a while. The message board is dry and stale, and I'm not getting much out of it these days.
I'm heading out the door to deal with my own problems in my small world.
I hope some of you can figure out whats real and whats not before its too late for you.

Look at the quote again, people!! It says NOTHING about watching the capsule that ACTUALLY LANDED ON THE MOON. It says they watched the CAPSULES and waved flags. There were many launches and returns in preparation for the actual moon landing. Nowhere in his quote is he referring to the date of the moon landing!!!!!

When did we land on the moon ?

I think most conservatives voted for Bush's expansion of debt out of loyality to party and they got their campaigns contributions to do it. Their wives and children got jobs that paid really nice with great benifits. How many of us average Americans fly members of congress in private jets, wine them, dine them, pay for their vacations. The same reason most dems will vote for Obama. Loyality to party and getting that under the table money.
The reason i think Obama got elected is simple demographics. To get elected as a dem you need high black turnout. Obama got it. He needed to get 90% or better of the black vote . He did. Obama needed to improve among Asians and Hispanics as compared to Kerry. He did. He needed to improve with whites as compared to Kerry. He did he got about 45% compared to Kerry's 43 + or - 1 or 2 points. The republicans turned the middle off they are the ones that didn't go for McCain. This country is roughly 30% republican, 30% democrat, 30% can swing either way with 10% who don't know dick and who knows how they vote.

The base of each party tend to be those who are committed to the respective party's philosophy. The actual base of the republican party tend to base loyalty on the idea of (a) smaller government and the freedom that concept offers (b) conservative fiscal policy and (c) a respect for life. George Bush horrified both small government and fiscal conservative members of the party.
And, to make matters worse, John McCain is still seen as a turncoat RINO (republican in name only) and was elected the nominee in open primaries, where it was impossible to keep "independents" and democrats from voting. Frankly, the republican party shot itself in the foot by allowing open primaries. Many, many conservatives sat out in because they would NOT vote for McCain in the presidential race.

George the retard, also scared the hell out of Libertarians and moderate social republicans. Who were also frightened when McCain picked Sarah. They saw her as a know nothing hick just like George the retard. She's no prize if you are fiscally conservative. She left Wasilla in the red by 20 million. Most coming from the hockey rink some claim the materials for their house came from as well as the labor. Who knows. Who cares. I think she's cute but don't want her running the country.
The republican must wake up. Reagan is a myth. This country is conservative is a myth. The demographics of our nation are changing. That's a fact. Whites and Blacks have stabilized their birth-rate. Hispanics and Asians are the fasting growing. Some legal - Some not. They are having 3 times more children as compared to Whites and Blacks. Hispanics and Asians are younger as a group. They will make up a larger share of the vote in the future. They have spread out to states that only a small percent change will effect an election. It looks like the republican didn't learn from Goldwater. When he turned black voters democrat. By, not supporting the Civil rights Act of 1964. He gave the democrats the wedge to dominate black votes from then on. I understand why he didn't. But, it was a stupid political move. They are repeating that mistake now. They should have gone after Soto's record and nothing else. They should have shut Rush Limbo and the radio butt-boys up about race. Now dems will beat them over the head in hispanic areas.

"This country is conservative is a myth."
I've taken quizzes that stick me in the Libertarian mindset. Hispanics, and for that matter a very large segment of Christian African-Americans are very conservative, when you look at how pro-life they are. Family values soundly defeated same sex marriage in California, where Obama was elected overwhelmingly.
The African-American people that I know, who are my age, sneer at the young kids with their baggy britches and their disgusting hip hop and oafish behavior. The older people have jobs, many have paid off their houses and they go to church on a regular basis.
