I'm truly sorry Rowdy felt like it was a personal attack. If he/she was into the horse world as he/she claimed I would expect thicker skin. Those people can be just as vicious as any dog person I've met.
Hell, I was told I could use my dog for a can opener when I asked for an opinion...another told me I should shoot her. (bullet test, if she survives I have a hell of a dog, if not, well my problem is solved). She's my baby, she is what she is but I'm not going to breed her.
I'm still here gathering all the nuggets of wisdom I can glean from this site. It's a good place for responsible people to share info.
Regards,
Deb

Just an observation... there are other threads where ppl are posting about litters they are whelping/have just whelped, or puppies people are getting... from breeders, not from animal shelters or rescues. Those ppl don't get this treatment.
I don't see how greeting a new person to the forum in this manner helped anyone or any animal.

Having unwanted dogs in rescues is sad - but it is neither a problem everywhere, nor are breedings from concerned average citizens who are here asking questions likely to result in rescue pups. There is NO evidence of that occurring. Krazy bout K9s proves it in her post - her rescue dogs are presumably from responsible breeders.
A visit to my local shelter last week illuminated and confirmed the fact that in my area, for example - there are not enough rescue dogs and they're imported from other rescues, some quite far away and a great expense. Two dogs were there because their owners died - nothing to do with overbreeding. One was there (a beautiful standard poodle) because the owner lost thier job and could not afford the dog anymore - clearly - it had nothing to do with the breeders. So sure - animals need homes, but to take that fact and tell someone they should get a rescue dog is nothing more than foisting one person's opinions on anothe person, who may have a completely different set of priorities and world view.
And Jayne is right - if you're going to preach the bigotted line of "the rescues are full, so you shouldn't breed" then ya better bloody well be preaching that to ALL of the breeders here, or in my view, you have no credibility to post against anyone who breeds.
I abhor the breed bigotry on these boards. I'm glad I do have thick skin - 'cause I'm not going anywhere. And one day, if the gods are smiling on me, and if my dogs prove healthy enough - they might be bred - and I surely hope that if I need any advice or help on my first littler, that the good, kind folks here that know more than me will help me out.
I have PMed Reiner and asked him/her to come back, because until there is a healthy population of enthusiasts who will are happy with their different worldview of dogs than the kind of worldview that requires "tough skin" - this board will continue to be an unfriendly place for some folks that may want to responsibley breed their animals, who may need help with training questions, or health questions, but who do not want to belong to the mindset that some on these boards seem to demonstrate.
I applaud all of the responsible breeders on this board. I am grateful for the wisdom and knowledge that many share freely. I simply do not believe anyone should require "thick skin" when they are posting on a board inhabited by mature adults.
<rant off> LOL!

Happens all the time. If Rowdy wanted to make friends here, that would have been entirely possible.
by jayne241 on 23 May 2009 - 15:05
And if a newcomer does try to offer advice, aren't they going to be told to not offer advice until they've read and asked questions and learned???
Holy cow, you can't win with some folks.
Maybe y'all can post a list of rules for newcomers to follow. Here, I'll start:
1. Don't ask questions about breeding/whelping until you've made some friends here. Dogs of people without friends here are not breed-worthy.
2. Only use SchH as a determination of breed-worthiness; or if you must use herding, then make sure it is a sport, with events and trials, not actually herding because you have something that needs to be herded.
3. If you ask a question, make sure you also post something that contributes to the forum, like offering advice.
4. Don't offer advice until you've asked questions and learned from those wiser than you.
5. Don't buy a pup from a breeder of any kind. There are too many animals in shelters and rescues, get one of those.
6. Don't have a dog unless it's pedigree goes back 7 generations and only has German or Czech working lines.
7. Don't post off-topic posts.
8. Don't complain about off-topic posts.
9. Don't ask.
10. Don't tell.
11. Go away, we don't want anyone else to join our exclusive club.

Can't quite be bothered to lose any sleep over the fact Rowdy took her/his toys and doesn't want to play anymore.

I didn't mean I'm completely leaving the board, I just meant I wasn't going to post on that topic anymore. I was finished defending myself. I understood what everyone was saying, but opinions are just that. Instead of going back and forth going nowhere, I decided to n/m my posts so the debating on my dog would cease. I am not leaving the board because I learn too much from many of you (I'm not new to the board, as you can see when I joined, I was just new to posting). I hope you can understand. I just can't stand confrontation on the internet, because you can interpret things is sooo many ways, especially when it comes to one's own pet.

the boyscouts are selling Blue Mountain Tea (aka 1773 Liberty Tea) at the end of the drive for Memorial days... I'm stuck in the house with the dogs naw darn it.
I can't believe all these people even found my house. It must be the tea.

When your pups are born, maybe you'll have changed your mind by then, and will post your pictures here anyway. EVERYONE does love sharing pix of puppies. Actually, I think everyone would LOVE seeing your bitch working at your ranch. Just a thought.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend, Rowdy.
