Kudos to Molly and Shelley for using the e-collar humanely (ooooh, that word is gonna get me flamed...!). Like most good trainers, they can recognize the e-collar's benefits while emphasizing the positive, working relationship between dog and handler. These are mentors I would love to work with, hands down!

Yes, there are people at the top, or another level, in protection sports that don´t use e-collars or prongs, one reason is that it´s not allowed in all countries nowadays, second, they obviously don´t feel the need for it either.

Are you kidding me, or kidding yourself? People do things that are illegal everyday, and this is no different. I know personally of Europeans that use electric when it’s against the law in their country. What competitior have you trained with from Europe that proves otherwise?

Hmm, I heard they flew back to Europe with half their clothes missing because the bags were full of e-collars! True story.

"you will take my e collar when you pull it from my cold dead hand"

"those that know how will,  those who dont will criticize"

just a couple of quotes from some of those who have been on the podium several times.

I SAW many of them buying e-collars at the World Championship. I couldn't place all the accents (the better their English, the harder it is to place the accent),so I can't say which were from European countries where it may be illegal and which were not. Odd, schutzhund was and has always been about the relationship and partnership with my dogs as a TEAM. In fact, judges are looking for it, too. I have no clue how you guys "do" schutzhund in the UK, but training where I have trained has always involved mixing it up, presenting new things for the dog to challenge the dog, the training and, frankly, to keep both dog and handler from getting bored/burnt out.

why is it so many have a problem with e-collars?  anyone want to guess the percentage of bird dog hunters who use them all the time?  or are we just  biased because we are not hunting birds?

sure, everyone has a story of how they are misuesed.   anyone want to tell the story of how they reached the top by using one?  no,  because no one who sits on the podium ever post here.    now that would be an interesting thread.  why dont any of the top winners in schutzhund (or any sport for that matter) ever post on messageboards?

ITS A TOOL.  if you dont know how to use it, or have never been shown how to use it properly,  then quit walking on water and passing judgement on those that do.

Yes, some people probably use them anyway, but if we should believe those that say they don´t use them, becuase it´s illegal or they don´t like it, and you never see them use them in seminars or in training, or heard otherwise from people that trains with them on the workingdog clubs, I think it´s pretty safe to say a bunch of people don´t use electrics or prongs in training of protectionsports. Maybe it´s more common in IPO, the handlers I was thinking about trains in the swedish protectionprogram, but I know there are IPO-folks that trains also without them, at least good enough to compete in the bigger championships.

Why do so many of you think that everyone that uses an e-collar just fries the crap out of the dog ??? The truth be told, if you do that kind of stuff, the dog gets worse, not better.

It is like when I first used a clicker to mark a behavior I wanted. It was faster, and more accurate.

I agree there are people that don’t use prongs or e-collars. That’s a given. But they are not at the top of the sport.
