the mushed puppy kibble is the best nutritional content - getting them to eat that would be the best.  Mix the canned food in with it.  Nutrical is great for a boost of nutrition and calories - give that straight to the skinny puppy who doesn't seem to be thriving - let her lick it right out of the tube, as much as she wants.  Mix it into the food for the rest too.  If you want to add just a little Karo syrup that's good for a boost too - suger and calories but the Nutrical is super at bringing a puppy through a crisis period.  Watch out for diarrhea - can kill a puppy in a very short time.  Diarrhea = dehydration = bad news.  Get some Tylan powder from your vet, or from a vet supply (Lambriarvet.com has it) - and make sure you worm them too.

Shandra, this turned out to be a pretty big post, isn't it nice to know that people care!

There are alot of good ideas being passed around.

The mushed up food is an excellent idea, do your pups have their teeth coming in?

As soon as those teeth come in they are ready to chew!!

Hope Xena comes home to you soon.

How is Xena doing today?

by Shandra on 12 September 2007 - 01:09

Hi ya'll

I just got home. ( 8:45 at night lol)

Vet called me at 4:30 and told me Xena could come home!! They pulled the IV earlier today and watched her the rest of the day and she is so far going to be fine :)))

They pulled another blood and all results are great.

The bills made me choke, 955.00 from Sunday at 7 pm until today.... OMFG! But she is alive and thats what counts :)
The pups are doing much better now that they are eating more. I still offer them the goats milk twice a day but they also get canned food. I will give them another day on that and start them back on the soaked food with canned added and take them off of milk. My main concern right now is making sure the have adequite fluid intake, I have been concerned about the possibility of the raisin toxins coming thru the milk, I want to keep their fluid intake up and they arent touching the water yet. They have just a touch of diarhea but thats to be expected with all the diet changes they have had the last 3 days.

I had wormed them when they were a week old, 3 days of panacur but apparently I didnt get them all. Yesterday morning I saw worms in the stool of 1 pup so I am worming them again, 1 cc of Panacur a day for 3 days.

I really appreaciate all of the advice and concern, Nice to have a support sytem when you really n eed it and have no one else to ask :) LOL WOrking 2 jobs doesnt leave time for making friends.

Shandra, I was a single mom, working night shift so I could be at home during the day  and trying to sleep when the kids were in school, doing extra shifts, agency work, whatever I could to make ends meet and stiil be with the kids. It doesn't leave much time for a social life! LOL! I'm SO glad Xena will be OK! See? Look at how many folks were saying their prayers for you & Xena...prayers work! I'm no religious nut or anything, but when so many people focus all that positive energy on something, it's just got to respond! OK...now everyone...focus on that lottery ticket I'm gonna buy....LOL ! Good luck with those little pups, jackie

Shandra, that turned out really good, I'm also glad Xena is home with you, I raised 8 kids & had a full time job,
I finally have some me time!

My oldest is 32 & my youngest is 12, they were & continue to be a big help, we've many had moments like this,

one day one of my kids drank from a cup in the bathroom that had a little bleach & water in it that I was cleaning with

she came out of the bathroom and said I think I'm going to be sick, then she threw up on my rug & it automaticaly got bleached,

we called poison control & they said give her lots of water, seeing it was out of her system.  She was real little at the time.
now she has just graduated from school & sings Jazz songs,at a  local  restaurant, she also helps with litters of  pups!

 Things do get better!
