In spite of how wrong this was and how many of us protest, the end result will never change without a lot of effort on the part of Max's owner. The officer is not at fault and never will be regardless of how compelling the evidence to indict him asuming there is such evidence. We are living in a world of dog haters and abusers and traditionally the law does as the law pleases in many smaller towns - Boss Hog and his militia rule. Men are exonerated from raping babies, why would anyone but us really give 2 shits about a dog getting killed by a renegade cop? He was only doing his job you know, protecting the community from a mad dog.
My sincere apologies to the law enforcement officers on this board, it is not fair to paint you with the same brush. Cops like this one give you all a black eye. I'm sure most of you are every bit as enraged over this seemingly senseless display of abuse of power as the rest of us.
Sadly, it's the way life in this country has become and only one thing will send a message - a lawsuit that will end up making national news and costing Boss Hog's community some money and hopefully him and his deputy their jobs. There is no place for a loose cannon on a police force. A powerful, innovative attorney will be needed and the case could be probably be won. I would suggest contacting the American Dog Owners Association for their input. I'm pretty sure they retain a list of attorneys who specialize in issues like this. There are attorneys on this board and I would plead with them to try to help get this case to court in any way they can.
If there is any sort of fund established in regard to Max's death, it should be to support the action against this officer including any additional investigation needed to decide the merit of the case which will take some doing since dead dogs don't talk. If the local newspaper has an internet forum, that would be a good place to voice your opinions and to get a feel for what his supporters are thinking and he general atmosphere of the community at large. Might even find some help there; this may not be the first time this officer has received bad press.

You say you don't want to paint everyone with the same brush, but that's what everyone is doing here. And all thes little "I respect LEO's, honestly I do" but then going on making some of the statements that have been made here don't ring true.
YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW ALL THE FACTS OF WHAT HAPPENED BECAUSE NO ONE, INCLUDING THE OWNERS, WERE EVEN THERE. YET EVERYONE HERE HAS DRUG THIS MAN THROUGH THE TRASH AND ALREADY FOUND HIM GUILTY! THIS IS RIDICULOUS!

No decent officer would have put himself in that position in the first place !
Long has 0 compassion for animals and even less for the family of the animals he destroys.
He's a piece of work and seriously must be his freaking cousin, Sure sound that way.
Seriously we have posted that we have respect for LEO YET YOU still find a way to try to twist the words of everyone here, and make it sound like we are all LEO haters, That's the Rediculous Part.

I agree Echo. Deputy Long has an ego problem, low self esteem & abuses animals due to this. It is classic sign of an abuser. Animals are always first. He will expose himself soon just as "seriously" will. I think maybe "seriously" IS Deputy Long. He is very frustrated that he has been exposed.

Nope, wrong again Det. Funk.
Just standing up for a brother that ain't being defended by people that should be defending him rather than jumping on the bandwagon.

Does anyone know who "owns" this poster?

My thought is that something similar woul be a good poster child for Max, maybe with his picture.

Look at the New Thread NEW LINK TO HELP MAX Please everyone go there and post your thoughts and encourage them to investigate this issue along with other family pets that have been executed by LEO
Whoever posted the link about "precious" the Pit Bull Terrier needs to provide them with that link as well, and write your thoughts on the phenomenon now known as "Family pets are executed if they get in the way of Law Enforcement" as the question... How are we to keep our pets "Safe" if they are not even Safe in our own home, backyard, garage,....
Maybe that's what should go on the poster ??

Just how is a family pet more important than the life and safety of a LEO? I'm sorry for their loss. I truly am. But I think if my son is running through people's yards in pursuit of a felon and he happens upon a dog attacking him that he would shoot the dog rather than be attacked, maimed and possibly killed by said dog. My son's life is more important than a dogs, especially when he is doing his job. I pray to God that he never encounters this situation, but if he does I want him coming home in one piece.

Policemom: I certainly would also want your son to return home in one piece, but I don't think it is unreasonable for me to expect my dog not to be shot inside my fenced yard if some crimimal decides to run through my yard when trying to elude the law. I have to think the scenario about criminals running through peoples yards is not entirely uncommon, But I doubt the police are regularly having to resort to shooting peoples dogs in said yards or the public outcry would really be deafening.
