I agree, it's not easy.  Sending out a (numbered?) ballot paper with the BC magazine?  Proof of GSD ownership... copy of registration papers?

Where there's a will, there's a way.

At this time I think the biggest problem is to get people to  vote in sufficient numbers.  Once the vote is in what happens next?  Is there a plan to move to the next level, or, is it a case of wait and see who votes?  If there is a plan, then who would present it to the KC?  Will it be the premier club, or, will be as usual that most will sit back and see what happens next?  I think that until more people and, in particular, the prominent breeders, engage in this dialogue more openly the value of any vote will be greatly reduced.  I am not trying to be negative but historically that is how it has always been.

Kind regards to all

Mackenzie

I would think that's down to the BC and the premier clubs.  I'm sure this is being discussed by many, though, obviously and perhaps sensibly, not on this board.

hi missbeeb owning a gsd or alsation does not mean that you know anything about the breed most people that own gsd/alsatian do so strictly as a pet they have no interest in the politics of the breed so i take i from your last statement you would be happy for them to have a say in where the breed goes many years ago when i was a miner there was a strike 1984 this strike was about jobs/communities the argument was that it was not right for one man to vote another man out of a job i held that opinion then and still hold it today  this is in a similar vein as in you would be askng people who have no genuine interest in the gsd/alsatian to decide its future i personally dont see that as the way forward i know what you mean in the sense that there are lots of people who do not breed/show etc but do have a genuine interest in our breed but how do you determine who is genuine and who is not as i said proof of ownership does not mean genuine interest.

Jim, I haven't made myself clear, (I do that a lot) only those with a real interest are going to "register" an opinion.  Most Shepherd owners would be oblivious anyway, those who buy the BC magazine, have an affix, are paid up member/s of a GSD club, are obviously interested / involved to a reasonable degree.

My Great Grandfather was killed in a mine collapse... in Scotland, near Armadale... I think.

I am absolutely certain that when the Kennel Club is formally approached, by any GSD organisation, or group of GSD organisations, they will need to be satisfied that a large majority of GSD Breed Clubs SUPPORT the separation, before they, The Kennel Club, will themselves give the request any serious consideration.

This clearly indicates that the work to achieve such a large majority has to be done at GSD Club level, and it needs to be done with thorough and active determination, and it needs to be done NOW.

I will place a LIST of GSD Clubs (UK) on my website at the end of February - and also place the GSD Club's VOTE, if and when received, on this important question of GSD/Alsatian separation.

In the meantime there is a lot of work to do.

Anything I can do to help, David?

missbeeb: The WORK needs to be done by GSD Club members. Those that are NOT members of any GSD Club, NEED TO JOIN ONE as soon as possible.

GSD Club members should also place this important ITEM on the agenda of their AGM, if it is too late for that, they should submit it as an Emergency Item, if a Chairman attempts to Rule that out of order, they should let me know and I will PUBLISH that, and consider further appropriate action. If the AGM has taken place, and/or a GSD Club has no meeting arranged for sometime, Club members should request, in writing, an extra-ordinary General meeting be convened as soon as possible, for a Club members decision on this important matter. Make sure your GSD Club rules relating to such matters are followed.

I remember there are many Club Rules that fall short of Kennel Club requirements. You should ALL have seen the GSD League Rules, when I became their Chairman in 1997, they were disgraceful, and FAILED to contain MANY Kennel Club MANDATORY RULES. They were sorted out.
And before anyone tries to shoot me down on this, I HAVE RETAINED THE FULL DETAILS.

OK, there is no longer a club in my county, but I will join the nearest one to me.
