My Tiekerhook and Korbelbach males have never stopped to think about anything....they just act like a bullet and if your in the way, your down....Oh , they are german shepherds., my only choice...as hard as they are, for some reason Im not scared of them, just highly respect their power, but Malinois scare me....I was ask to try one many years ago,and am glad I said No..GS breeders could heed the fact of not letting the breed get so big and keep the standard where it should be and the shepherd would still remain the "brains behind the brawn"

get a real dog, well done, i agree with you on everything. I think its because we both have mals. we will just have to agree to disagreee about them in the house.

GARD - My trainer told us to throw the ball when she starts to do that too! :) But he said to do it a few times, so she doesn't think that she's getting her way by pouting, them put her up for a bit. Is that a good thing to do? Unbeknowst to me, I've owned GSD/Mal crosses before. (the dogs were advertised as GSD, registered as GSD, and looked like GSD puppies until they got older...long story! :( ) But this is my first full Mal. To me, it's like loving and handling my children... I love them all, regardless, but there might be certain things I love more about one then the other! And their personalities are like night and day, so each must be handled differently depending on the situations. However, they all know (2 and 4 legged kids), MOM IS BOSS and there are things that will not be tolerated! LOL Also... I had a man once tell me he hated my dogs, and I had to choose between him and them....it took only 9 months for the divorce to be final! roflmao NO OFFENSE to the men....but good men are a dime a dozen....A GOOD DOG IS HARD TO FIND! LOL

My husband will (finally!) start sharing my passion for SchH and he will be getting a dog next year, and it will be a Malinois, instead of a GSD like I own. One point I like about the Mali's that I don't think has been listed on this thread is the fact that they can take the heat better than a GSD. As much as I love my big-boned, stocky, black sable GSD I can see that as the weather warms this year it's taking a toll on him. Mali's have a thinner frame, and shorter, less dense coat which helps them beat the heat. My husband and I are avid mountain bikers and we take our GSD on our rides. We have to stop at every stream crossing to allow him to drink, rest, and lie in the water to cool down. When my husband rides alone, he's way faster and he wants a dog that can keep up. Furthermore, my husband is turned off by the showline/workingline split in the GSD breed. He likes the Mali's because they are all bred for working ability. My apologies to the show crowd, but that's his opinion. Yvette

I have to say that this is one of the best discussions about the two breeds I have encountered on the internet so far. Whoever wanted to read what has been written here could have learned a lot. I happen to agree with get a real dog especially what he said about the use of dogs (both mals and shepherds)in the law enforcement. I also think that even mals are in danger as abreed because of hiper production.

Get a real dog..

You lost alot of respect and value on your opinion with your statement about pitbulls, not just with me but alot of other people. i have been around many pitbulls and any respectable LE will not use one, way too high of a risk due to their history and appitude.

by workingdawg on 09 May 2007 - 03:05

desertrangers, if your saying that pitbulls are a dangerous breed i would totally have to disagree with you. national tests have been done on breed temperment and found the pitbull breed to have as a whole one of the best temperments. the breed gets a bad rap not because of the dog but the people who own them.

by Get A Real Dog on 09 May 2007 - 04:05

So are you saying that pit Bulls are dangerous, not intelligent, baby killers, or all of the above?

What exactly is it about a pit bulls "apptitude" that makes them any higher a risk than any other breed? Please enlighten all of us.

There are quite a few pitbulls in Washington state being used in LE as drug and bomb detection dogs. Of course when the news media shows up they hide those and bring out a socially acceptable dog for picture time.    Too bad people aren't allowed to see the good side and only hear the bad.

I don't have the nerve base to have Mali's. They'd be peeling us both off the ceiling from Day One.
