I was the "gatekeeper" at the protection test - I have the results in my catalog. If there are any specific questions beyond if the dog passed/failed, contact me privately as I will not be posting personal opinions on the public forum. Except that overall, the performances were stronger this year than last year. molly

Wow! I read posts like these and I thank my lucky stars that I have a workling line GSD. However, it is truly degrading to have a double standard for show dogs and working dogs. No wonder none of the show dogs can touch the podium in a "real" test of their abilities in SchH. It's a shame that we sacrifice our integrity and dilute the quality of our breed just to avoid alienating show breeders making big bucks on puppies and stud fees. So who would be the right person to complain to? I am a member of USCA - so who do I go to? Yvette

One other thought... there ARE show dogs out there that can do "real" Schutzhund protection work. The problem is that they are lost in the crowd, as dogs that are unworthy are given the same titles and rankings. If I had such a show dog I would be completely pissed that weak dogs are allowed to pass when they don't deserve it. Why don't we hear more outrage from the handlers and breeders of the truly capable show dogs?

I saw several very convincing protection performances by high-line dogs, most just "average" (for show lines, sub-standard for wkg lines) and one failure to engage. The most commonly demonstrated weakness (IMO) I noted in the catalog (I only saw the second half of the males) was failure to guard convincingly (or at all) after the outs. The better/more experienced handlers took care to sprint to pick up dogs with weak nerves BEFORE they turned tail and headed for the hills... if they could... Of course some dogs weak nerves were apparent during the actual biting/nipping, unsureness, etc. Failure to guard, poor position, lack of barking, avoidance of helper or handler after the outs was not penalized as this is not a scored trial routine. I can see a dog avoiding his handler a bit because he's been "cleaned up" severely to insure the out in this very important instance, but you won't find me breeding to any dog that demonstrates the desire to make tracks away from a helper for any reason. Of course the working dogs all performed admirably. The grey dog that came hard and bounced off the sleeve recovered instantly upon landing, sped to grip full and hard, performing the entire routine beautifully. Its unfortunate this nice-looking grey dog was not show trained. I uttered an audible "ahhhh shit" when he failed to show well around the ring in the stand for exam, disappointed to note he wouldn't have a chance of placing where he might otherwise have from that moment on. We working dog people generally have to learn that lesson the hard way. SS

are there ANY FULL results up yet??does anyone have the working female list? a bitch named xenia vom angelbaum?? does anyone know what with her, rating, bitework, anyhting??

Xenia Angelbaum did not show up for protection, therefore she did not show in the ring either. She was not officially pulled (just did not show up) so I don't know why she wasn't shown. molly
