"Also, he would be livid to see what breeders with American line German Shepherds have done to the dog that he created. JMO, Dawn Bonome"

Dawn, when you say this stuff, you should also include bashes against the dogs that can't be trusted with children and pets and farm animals.  Have you READ Capt. S's book?  Have you seen the photos of the dogs lying down with kittens and ducks?  Do you think he would be livid at the ball-crazy, high-prey drive dogs today that couldn't be allowed anywhere near a playing kitten or a barnyard chicken?

Fair is fair.

And btw, one of my GSD is a rescue from the dog pound (a starvation case).  Although his previous owner's name was blacked out of his turned-in vet records, the vet's name and the dog's name and breeding were there.  Turns out he was bred by an American line breeder who I was able to contact, and who was appalled to find out where the dog was.  He was sold as a pet puppy and I got him at almost 2yo, weighing 47 pounds - he's now 78 lbs.  She would've taken him back but he's mine now. Anyway, he looks strikingly like the dogs in Capt. Max's book:  four-square, a little leggy, the same more refined head than we see in the German lines today.  You could put his b&w photo in that book and I'd bet the farm you couldn't pick him out as a modern dog.  The type is exactly the same.  This dog is a wonderful dog.  He actually looks and acts just like the dogs in the book - absolutely trustworthy with children, babies, kittens, poultry, horses.  He will go anywhere and do anything, hiking, swimming, he's up for it all.  He adores people, old and young, and he is watchful and protective of me.  He is a fantastic dog despite a terrible ordeal for probably a year, year-and-a-half, of his life.

So SOMEBODY out there is breeding sound, healthy-in-mind-and-body American line GSD.  I simply don't believe that this breeder is all alone in doing so.
