Right now all I am taking is a stron antibiotic called Clarithromycin, but if I have to endure many more insults I'm going to need something a LOT STRONGER! Say, do they still make thorazine??? LOL SS

I have to say that I would first look at the bitch before I look at the stud. The bitch is the most important part of any breeding program. To many people look at the stud first. Not just my opinion on this one. I also know it is hard to find a great brood bitch these days but they are out there. I know there was a thread on "which female produces the best" or something like that.

Shelly? You request Thorazine?!? Have some Ritalin instead. http://www.decodog.com/inven/MD/md30035.jpg (look at the poster) :)

Shelly, yes, they still have Thorazine, however there is somthing better, (I forget what it is) you can stack someone like cord wood after a small dose.

Absolutely I agree the female is the most important part of the breeding, the stud dog should be chosen to compliment her. I always pick a breeding by knowing both dogs, liking the way they compliment each other in type, temperament, drives, nerves, structure - and then after that, looking at their pedigrees to make sure they don't conflict there. I have a female who I know very well, and the stud dog I have chosen for her is Mike Diehls' Eicke. I have seen him work for myself, spoken to Mike and those who know/have worked his progeny, and feel he is an excellent choice for this particular female. And besides that, I like his pedigree too and it compliments hers. molly

Quite right. The bitch is by far the most important part of the equation. After all, it is the mother who rears the pups. They take a lot of their learned behavior from her, as well as half their genes. Unfortunately, good females are hard to come by, great ones nearly impossible. What would a weak female impart to her little charges during those few very important weeks of imprinting before the pups are weaned, no matter WHAT she was bred to? We humans might not even notice a difference in the maternal behavior as long as our female is a good mother, not to mention the "kennel-blindness" aspect... Of course we all think we have the best dogs. That's normal... and we all do! There are quite a few truly fabulous dogs in this country now. Actually, there always have been, but many breeders failed to realize which ones were really good, and some of us prefer to breed to and reccommend only our friends' dogs out of some kind of misplaced loyalty. We forget sometimes that we are breeding our precious females to the DOG... NOT the owner! How many times have I had to swallow my pride and take a female to the dog that best suits them even though I despised the owner of the dog? LOL Ex: I neither liked nor trusted Hubert Feuerstarke, but I forced myself to "make nice" long enough to breed my Lewis Malateta daughter to Fero... Conversely, I think the world of Dieter Haupt, so it was a happy occasion when I took a female to Jago Lindenhalle.

I think she's pretty good, leaning toward great. LOL. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/471246.html Thanks all who answered here and by email. We have it narrowed down to a couple we think would complement her. Now it's logistics and timing.

There are excellent females out there. If we have an excellent female that produces temperment(high),structure and excellent working ability along with natural agression and (social agression which I like) and then find a nice male to compliment this or balance this we would have close to the perfect working GSD. Since alot of people now a days breed for pets this will not happen. I hope when I am ready for my next GSD I will be able to find this and I would first look at the bitch.
