Problem is out of a litter of 7 maybe only 2 should be breed. People pay top dollar for a pup and the plan is to breed it as soon as they can. Theydon't even have a clue if it's actually worth breeding. Think if it has top parents then ot must be as good as they are.
"dogford4. Why are you such an a hole?"
just a reminder - Dogford4, TimLC, KHill, Ike2, Kougar - all are Lee Hough, from Wolfstraum, who enjoys being "Troll Queen" on this board and in her life in general. Take anything she says with a grain of salt, or just ignore her like anyone who knows her does.
molly
Molly, your a classy gal.. Lets stay on topic please.
Dennis
desert,
exacty, and w/ some work the other 5 can get a sch1. even if it wont stay on the sleeve and it takes 3 trial for it to pass. This type of dog should not be bred. but it can be titled, and KKL making it breed worthy.
The concept of schutzhund is still sound for those that see at another tool to evaluate a dog, but it has gotten so easy to meet the minimum breeding requirements, that the breed will suffer in the long run.
The as a whole is doomed PERIOD. there are more "BYB" (for lack of a better term) than breeders trying to breed sound working dogs. the BYB will out produce the other breeders at least 3 to 1. IMO all we can do is maintain what we have so tha we dont wake up in 20yrs asking the same questions folks ask about dobes
"are there any good ones left...or i remember when i was kid we had a real GSD"
wscott, You really have put alot of effort, time, and true understanding into this post. Very well done, hope I don't get you shot at for giving you credit that is due. I'll whisper apologies ahead of time.
Hundguy, You as well, Thank You for being willing to post your thoughts on the subject, There are those who are still willing to learn from thoughtful, insightful, intelligent, posters.
Molly, If I were not in the position I am at the shelter I would beg to come volunteer at your kennel for a year or two, Hell I would sleep in a dog run to learn from you. Maybe I can send the kidlet so she will not suffer the stabbings I have suffered here someday. If she so decides to continue with GSD's but she's working on law school at the moment, But you know kids... Anyway I really do admire you for your efforts and absolutely respect you for your hard work and accomplishments. I hope someday I would be lucky enough to shake your hand. respectfully Mitch
Thanks Mitch - anyone is welcome to come here any time - I don't profess to be an expert, but I do my very best to do "the dog thing" right. I appreciate your comments. As for your "kidlet" - nope, I don't do kids - lots of people try to leave their kids with their dogs at my boarding kennel, but my sharp eye picks them out pretty quick! Leave the dogs to me - not the kids!
molly
Ha ha ha ha ha
Molly, you are ON today!
I'm with you: just send me the dogs... keep any humans under the age of 10 and "broke to ride" home.
I look forward to the time I can get "off the patch" long enough to come visit you and your dogs. The war dept. and the dogs keep me the menopausal equivilent to "barefoot and pregnant" or I would have been there long since. I'm so busy "preserving the breed" (read feeding and cleaning and all that other good stuff that comes with sole proprietorship...) I have trouble finding time to shop for graceries at the supermarket 2 miles away...
Keep up the good work.
Shelley
Anyone here been asked to hold a seminar? Have any of you been paid to hold any public forums to discuss your training or breeding practices? Are any of you T. Floyd, Gary H., Wallace Payne, or any of the other top people in the sport? Have you sold any of your progeny to the top handlers in Europe? Are any of you respected by the European body? Do you travel outside the U.S often for training, and to enhance your knowledge and skills? Has anyone, who competes on the world stage, asked you for advice? What I am trying to say here is stop blowing smoke up your a$$ and come down to reality, the real world really doesn't care about any of your assumptions or categorizations, all of you are small peas in a pot, in the scheme of things. The soap opera continues.
dogford4 the real world wasn't asked to join us here at the database. This a place for people to learn, not a place for anyone to tell us what we can and can't do!! Do you anewser yes to any of these questions yourself? The soap opera could get much worse with comments like that. Let people learn because that is what they want to do not because of who they know, who they are, or who you think they should be. This is a place to learn and personally this "small pea in a pot," has a wonderful life and alot to be thankful for, regardless if anyone else thinks so or not.
dogford also, it would be correct to say blowing smoke "out" your a$$ not up your own. LOL So what if non of us are at the National or World level, some of us don't even aspire to that stuffy loft. Everyone here is at a different level and has different experiences with our dogs. We are sharing, not pointing fingers or blaming, even though some do. I don't even want to be a pea in a pot, I'll stick to my "pod" thanks.
