I can't believe you have been breeding for 6 years and you still need to ask these type of questions? WOW!

BlueSky, I thought the same thing about my puppy that I had kept from one of my breedings. I thought that maybe she was just aloof and independent but I had never had a dog that didn't just demand attention and love. Anyway, over the Christmas holidays, we had to board her for 4 days. When we picked her up, she ran out of the kennel and jumped into my arms. Ever since, she has really been showing lots of affection to me. Do purchase the Leerburg video HOW TO RAISE A WORKING PUPPY. Also, I have a kong that is stuffed with peanut butter that she only gets when crated. She is 4 months old now and wonderful. Cole

Kevin, A GOOD breeder knows when to ask questions. I have been breeding GOLDEN RETRIEVERS for 6 years, NOT Shepherds. If you are a good enough breeder that you don't need to learn any more, please, do enlighten us...last time I checked, we ALL could learn something. Thanks everyone, I am hoping to turn my "free roam" way of thinking around, because Shepherds just aren't Goldens, so sooner I realize that, sooner we'll all be happier!

To my way of thinking if more pups were crated, their would be less in the pound. About the time the dog is going to mature, people have had enough and give up. My Husband threanted to divorce me over a Dalmation, There was only so much I could crate him. Now if you asked my husband, he would tell you he was one of his favorites, go figure.

Would you love someone who chased after you showering you with goodies and demanding your attention? I think not. Try ignoring her, have her around but don't bother with her don't even look at her, reward her only when she performs well in training situations and keep that brief. don't let her get on the furniture especially the bed, and don't expect anything from her. I think you will find she starts seeking your company and gets a great deal more affectionate pretty rapidly.

Hi Bluesky! I never crated my dogs, they always live in the house, having contact to the whole family. Puppies need a lot of sleep, don¿t try to play with her when she is tired. Only pet her, when she comes to you by herself, feeding her 3 times a day is fine. Be glad she loves your mom, be glad she is social. I never had any difficulties training my "house raised pets" for Schutzhund. I hope you agree with me, that you don¿t want to raise a dangerous dog, but a self confident companion willing to work for you. Always be her leader, if you say "no" it¿s "no", and not "maybe", you need her respect, but otherwise love her, that¿s the reason why people choose to share their life with a dog! If you have a good voice, sing for her, why not? And if she is interested in Animal Channel, allow her 1 hour daily ( That¿s enough for such a young girl - big smile )!

A small puppy should not be fed only once a day! As long as you are not overfeeding a puppy needs more than one meal. 1 1/2 cups twice a day is what I raise my pups on.

Firstly who is Brittany, and where did i see that name on this thread

Secondly who says feeding a small puppy three times a day is wrong, of course they should be fed three times a day just weigh out there daily ration once, then spilt it into three dinners if the Pup struggles to eat any one meal then cut back a bit and then feed the three times a day NOT less,

and i have always fed all my older Dogs twice a day again the amount i am feeding for the day cut into two portions never had bloat in a dog never had a Dog full up it cannot move,

I NEVER feed a dog before it goes on the training field so if i go at night training it gets its evening feed about 11.30 at night

when i go on a sunday morning it has its morning meal at about 1.30 when we get home from training and the evening meal around 8.oclock

The Pup Heidi is fed at seven oclock in the morning training sunday but that has happen only once as she has been here only one week then her second feed was at 1.30

Bluesky

If your Pup is with you all day every day then it is used to seeing you and as far as it is concerned, it looks apon you as a piece of furniture

and i do not mean that nasty

So when your morher comes she is a new thing to the Pup and it will make a fuss of her

My Dogs live outside 24/7 as is well known on this site now, and they go head over heels when they see me

even Pup heidi goes mad when i come out and is under my feet all the time

What the problem is that if there is a problem is you are there all the time

Stay away from the Pup and i mean for several hours a day, several times a day, go to it only when you have to feed it

it will be as pleased to see you as you be the Pup, they need there space just as you do yours, and you will then see that your Puppy does love you
