Supax I think it is a parasite of some sort doing this to him,coccidia or giardia possible.
That is why I say do as sitasmom suggests, metro and panacur. Even tho the vet looks for these things, they can slip by
I just had a case of coccidia that made me want to cry for my little girl. Even after the diarreah was gone getting the weight back was a challenge, and my dogs have access to food 24/7.
I gave her raw ground beef 2x a day and I cooked batches of ground turkey that I gave her throughout the day and now she is finnally putting on the weight.
Hate to say it but Vet's certainlyy ain't right all of the time .
My vet told me NOT to worm my pups before 5 weeks old as the worms don't get into intestines until 5 weeks.
I was like, OK, whatever. But let me waste my money anyone and just let me have the wormer .
Try the metro and panacur anyway, it won't hurt and I think you will be happy with the results.

they gave me metronidazole 250 mg 1.5 tablets for 6 days
praziquantel 68 mg 1,5 tab now and again in 2 weeks
probiotic
for diagnos
they said the fecal test they do test for all parisites, nor not, but they did this time check for giardia
bloodtest everything was normal except
mono 2.50 K/ul 0.30-2.00
she said that could be high because of the parasites

now sister looks a lil plump, cant really tell bad pic for that, (if it ends up being the case ill talk to my friend who owns her) but she is WAY bigger than him, she looks normal he looks 3 months, and hes 5

The metronidazole is the metro and the paraziqual is basicly the same thingg as what is in the panacur .
I myself give a three day treatment with the panacur when there is a problem, other than that I use ivermectin with parazinqual as a monthly wormer for all my dogs after they hit 8 months.
Your vet seems to be on the same page I am on.
What food is the sister eating? I would try giving your boy more beef. Beef spare ribs,raw would be great.
My kids get mad when I tell them the ribs in the freezer are for the dogs.
I am not suggesting going to a raw diet, just give him a little added meat to his diet.
Maybe even add a softly scrambled egg or two to his diet, at least until he pulls himself togeather .
Any pics of your female? I would try taking them out togeather more also.
Just like people, the more exercise and fun your dog has, the better his overall health will be.

Been following without commenting. You have been worrying about this little fella's development for some while now. I agree with you and with KitKat, something isn't right, he just doesn't seem to be showing the right development for his age - he doesn't look 'right'.
You are really doing all you can for now, looking/treating for coccidia/giardia has to be the next step. Meantime I would definitely change his food too. What suits one dog doesn't necessarily suit another, maybe you could try something like salmon & potato - a novel protein and carb source?
If you don't mind raw feeding maybe that would suit him, or at least I would add some raw green tripe in, as that is a great conditioner.
I am sure you will get to the bottom of it, but I feel you are right, this is more than him just being naturally 'smaller'.

If this pup was infested with giardia or coccidia long enough for his growth to be stunted by them, he would be having very bloody stools for a long time and throwing up for a long time. How about a thyroid check?

well i do want to try some different things as far as their food, when i get home next month, until now ive been in germany, it serves me no purpose to find a german food hes good on just to not be able to find it @ home...the PX on base is limited, they have blue buff, and many bags of SHIT food. so..........i now (for 2 days have had him on wilderness) whe the other big bag is gone i wanna try my female on it also........@ abby should i treat for giardia even though he came up neg for it?
