I would test for Lymes, as well- do the 4 tick snap test panel- Lymes can also attack the kidneys!

Ok, here's the update.
Chance had his first bowel movement today since Saturday (there was a lot of cheering involved at the vet's office) He is home
and very hungry, no longer lethargic, but still not able to pee. He has to be catheterized once a day for the time being. The vet
sent him home with meds. The vets want to give the meds a chance to work.
SO that is where we are right now.
Def. not antifreeze or lepto. I have no idea about ticks.

Poor baby having to be cathed :( I would think that doing it once a day would be worse for his bladder from stretching etc. guess the vet knows best.
keeping my fingers crossed for him :)
any chance he was kicked and it just bruised the uretha?

The vet is still thinking nerve damage. No, no chance at all of him being kicked. He's the kindest, gentlest dog I've ever
met. Would have made an excellent therapy dog. I know his owner too, and she's not that type.
She said he is taking the catheter right in stride, no fight to have it done. Such a patient boy. All of the staff at the vet's
office have fallen in love with him and the one tech offered to come by her house to do the cath.
Lots of prayers going their way. You have no idea how upset I am over this.

Give the meds time to work. Possibility he had a stone (hint blood) that blocked urine flow, stretched the bladder, backed up into the kidneys (increased white count). If all the BUN, Creatnine and GFR was normal, than his kidneys are fine. The vet is right to put him on a muscle relexant that hopefully will eventual work for the sphincter, as well as a medication to help the bladder contract to its normal size again.
Of course, cathing only once a day is not entirely helping the contraction part. But I think its also to see if he will start peeing on its own. On another thought, if he was neutered in october, is there is a possibility of adhesions/scartissue building?

This looks like an infection somewhere. Based on the history, not lyme, spinal issues, or nerve problems.
Was urine microscopy done. That will say a lot. If I was to guess, I would think infection in kidneys or bladder.

Infection in the bladder due to the inability to urinate, from not totally certain causes.
Update: Chance was able to pee almost normally ONCE today. It has since turned back into a trickle, BUT this
leaves me with a lot of hope. He still needs to be cathed, but I'm hopeful that it will not be for much longer.
Does anyone know that if it is in fact a slipped disk, besides surgery, if there are any alternative therapies such
as being adjusted by a doggie chiropractor?

Poor boy :( If it is in fact a disc issue, anti-inflamitory drugs and crate rest should reduce the amount of pressure on the nerve. Not sure if Chiro would be a good idea, I would think if there is a disc injury it may cause more harm then good. I would think if it was in fact a disc, there would be something more going on with his rear, it should not just be affecting his bladder. Not sure if this site will help, but its a wealth of info on spine/disc stuff (mainly IVDD, but informative), as well as resources to rehab/chiro/neuro experts, http://www.dodgerslist.com/
