I have a great deal of respect for some of the people mentioned.
I also am quite confident ,based on my own info on some breeders, that Bhall is an "excellent" decision for you and your needs.
BH seems to be a very hoonest, knowledgeabl and reputable person.
It woujld be wonderful to be
able to research in person, the way you did for your dog.
Just wanted to point out other favorable statements on Alpine.
Congratulations on finding a wonderful dog, And your input is greatly appreciated.
Best of luck with your dog.

Sorry kitkat, but I would not be the correct one to do that with for quite some time

Michael, so how much did you end-up paying, and what was "included" in the dogs training when the dog will be handed over to you? Wonder whether the 75k dogs actually sell, one would think most people who want a PPD would do more due diligence like you have. Can you share the dogs pedigree as well?.
Gusmanda, with everything all said and done flights, hotel, food, dog, training for dog, handlers course for me, training gear for me and dog I would say about $15K. Mind you that is not what I paid for the dog but everything. I found Birgit and the others I posted about to be more than fair with their pricing. I will share the pedigree as soon as I decide which one I'm going to take for sure.
The only exception would be the two word reply I got from Eurosport wanting $8500 for a five year old dog, it was a very nice dog but a five year old all the same and that's before any shipping fee's. I think that's a bit steep for a 5yr old.
PS. Yes, the $75K dogs sell but at what dollar amount does the dogs abilities end and your ego begin? You will also have the classic sales guy tell you "Can you put a price on your families safety?" trying to sell you something based on the emotion you are less of a provider if you don't spend X dollars. I figure if a LEO can depend on that dog on a daily basis to save his life so can I.

it's good that you had the time, money, and more importantly, the willingness, to do the research and get what you really wanted. Keep us posted when you get the dog. I know there are different levels of protection, so curious as to which one you got, and what sort of mantainance training you need later on (such as having a decoy attack you at home and at your jewelry store, for example). Very cool.
As far as levels of protection go (beyond barking and intimidation) I simply want a dog that will go civil if need be. Until then I just want him to be a big goofy lovable beast. As far as maintenance training goes there are much more educated people on this board to answer that question, but I will give you my novice answer. The LE dept's require 16hrs/month to stay in compliance (that's my word not theirs). But to be honest I think I will be more around the 8-10hr/month range. I'm sure others will come on here and correct me on this but I think that's about where I'll be.
Then again I guess it's up to the dog since I've learned you can not train a dog for 8hrs/day.
FWIW I would talk with Slamdunc or contact Bhall which may put you in touch with Mike Baker if you're interested in going down this path. I know there are others but I haven't had any experience with anyone else.

What temperament, action are you referring to by the word "civil" when referencing a desired trait?
