Slamdunc

by Slamdunc on 04 November 2012 - 21:11

It's not that I want to pay $7,000 or more for green dogs, it's that I can't find suitable, quality dogs that fit my needs for less.  I deal with 3 vendors currently who import dogs and $6,500 is the cheapest price we see and most of the dogs are not worth anything near that.  I am looking for green "dual purpose" candidates and go through 25 or 30 in testing before selecting one.  If you know someone that sells green dogs, that have high prey, strong nerves, environmentally sound, social yet civil with natural aggression and nice defense send me their name.  I'll add them to our vendor list.

Just to expand on what Slamdunc is saying;

The RCMP pay around $8,000 for a “Green Dog”, it then “Finishes it’s Training” in Innisfail Alberta.

When the Certified, but still green dog is ready to work on the street, it’s estimated value is now around $25,000.

The RCMP define a Green Dog as one that will bite a sleeve, show a desire to track, and be ball crazy.

As little as I know of Slamdunc, I am pretty sure the dogs that you claim were sold for less than $7,000 to major departments-  are not the Droids he is looking for.

I could be wrong though

Hey Slamdunc,
Donated a dog exactly like that this past March. I'm not a vendor, but do occasionally have some
that may fit the bill. Not nearly as handsome as Boomer though :)

Thanks Jim

That pup is now in Iowa finishing his training and will hopefully be a Sherrif K9 in the near future.

Melba - I'd love to see the video of the pup you donated.

I am always looking for new ideas on training pups.

  Whatever the price YOU must feel comfortable with that and the dog at hand. The  seller/trainer will be able to review the dogs abilities with you.They can suggest a competent trainer for you to work with in your region... I also know of an excellent trainer in AZ if you would like the name and number send a note.. NOT IM I dont frequent here enough.  You will need to do some amount of work/training with the trainer and dog regardless of previous titles or training elsewere. A new owner needs to be clear at delivering commands and it is a great bonding experience IF you get a good trainer that is.

I heard you say something about your GUT feeling.. I have learned over the years to be more confident in listening that Gut, instincts, message from above, whatever you care to call it.... Listen...ulitmately YOU are paying and YOU are going to be the owner..it should be a positive experience with you feeling good about getting a new dog that will be with you a very long time!

I never did get any video of him in protection before I donated him, but do have a little just messing around in the backyard :)
Slamdunc, he was handsome, yes, but I think Boomer is stunning!

Lets see if I embedded this correctly or if I need to go back to the tutorial...

Thanks Melissa

Commented on your video on you tube

I refer to dogs as pups until about 1 1/2 years.

I believe Slam was referring to the puppy in this video;

(Having trouble with this embeding stuff)
