I have 3 bitches, one spayed due to her not having the best body. I found first and maybe second season are gushers but after that they don't really seem to bleed. You can get girls that a clean or dirty.
I just have a clean mop bucket sitting there to run over the problem areas. My girl don't get thrown outside because they are bleeding, I just cover what I need to and having no carpet makes it easy.
I think males are worst, marking territory in the house, I'll stick with the girls. :)

for me, the worst thing about heats is how stupid some of the males become.......like the ones who go off their feed.
when the girls were younger they seemed to go in succession, which meant a nervebag male could go for several
weeks barely eating a thing. the boys i have now, don't go off feed---thank god. just a bit of whinning.

Not a big deal. Some females don't keep themselves clean, hence the complaints from some people. Capri is in the house in heat right now. On occasion I will see one or two drops of blood and about 30 seconds later, she cleans it up before I can. She sleeps in my bedroom every night, too. The biggest indicator is my Chihuahua, eyes bugged out, mercilessly humping his bed.

I keep my female contained during her heat. She does not get to move around too freely until her heat is up.

I LOLd just picturing the poor little Chihuahua in action, in my mind.
My Lab goes totally cuckoo when my female shepherd is in heat.....he even refuses to go into his crate and vociferously demand to be left out, which of course I will not entertain ! Even my little shepherd boy (who was barely 4 months old or so when Bella was last in heat) felt something was amiss, even though he was too young to place his paw on exactly what was happening.....but now that he is 8 months old, I am guessing he would also exhibit funny behavior when she goes into her next heat.
Either way, I will absolutely not neuter or spay my dogs - personal philosophy. Just manage things when the female is in heat.

Qira wears a diaper, simply because her favorite place to hang out is on my bed...... and that is not a pleasant thing to discover!!!
Back when Jewel would still go into heat, she was very clean about it (although that golden hair acts like a diaper of its own sometimes). You'd notice about two drops throughout her whole cycle and that was it. The only way she really got annoying was that she ALWAYS wanted to be outside, so she'd WHINE and WHINE and follow you all around the house asking to go out.
LMAO Jen... your poor Chi! Our old poodle was really bad about that too. Once he realized that a bitch was in heat, every time he saw or was with her from that point on, he'd start humping them whether they were in heat or not... or had been fixed since, for that matter. That dog had a screw loose, I swear.... then again he was a poodle...

I thought he was having a seizure, I swear. His crate was scooting across the floor. I LOL'd when I saw his big brown eyes and look of intense concentration.
Hey, anyone need a randy Chihuahua? He is for sale.
