YR, in the past, I have fed Blue Buffalo, and wasn't thrilled with my dog's stools on it. (I'm talking about a past Pitbull I had, and a Beagle) they were gassy constantly, pooped probably 3-4 times A DAY (despite being ribby, at best, so they weren't over fed) and man, stools were always soft-serve consistancy. However, THAT being said, this is a Grain Free new formula, so I'll give it a shot for Beau.

Lilah and Beau (until his new Blue comes in) are both eating Earthborn, the Field Feast (I believe is the name) formula. They both just ate a cup of it, and seemed to like it. It was a stellar price, smelled "good" (for dog food, that is) when I opened the bag, and after HOURS, LITERALLY HOURS of checking online, I have NOT found them to be affiliated with Diamond.

On a side note, the pet store guys now know me by name, or refer to me as "the German Shepherd Lady"...um, thanks?

One thing for sure, you have to take change slowly

YOu can expect for a week or so some bowel upchuck

German shepherds digestion tracts do not take lightly to constant change..and some just will not be able to eat the brands we suggest..

But yu have to find one at least and stay on it...and quit changing it...let the dog acclamate to it.

Blue Buffalo has about 9 different types so maybe you need to switch to the Large breed or their Holistic..

You pup is gonna have a time of problems because of his bowel upset.

Keep him on probiotics for sure

Feed smaller amounts...so he eats it and doesn't woof it down...

more feedings until he gets settled in his bowel ...

YR

Plenty of water with NO CHLORINE in it

I certainly expect the bowel issues, the thing is, when he was sticking with one food, they recalled it, needless to say, bowel upset or not, I can't keep him on it...

He and Lilah BOTH get bottled water now, because of our tap water. Even WE don't drink it. We were told we couldn't have a water softener because it would eat the pipes or some crap? There are times I miss living out in the country, away from crappy city water, that's for sure.

Since he has been with me, he's only been on ONE dog food. Taste of the Wild. I never fed the kids the Natural Balance bought late last night, I opened the bag to get it ready for morning breakfast, but ended up just taping the bag closed and took it back to the store. This will be the second food he's been on since being with me. His breeder fed Iams, and I was not going to keep him on that for longer than I had to.

The transition to the Blue Buffalo formula will be done over a 10-15 day period, because I don't want to upset his stomach more than it needs to be, but simply put, I can't find even one store around here who sells PUPPY formula Grain Free foods. Not even one. I have TWO that are within 30 miles of my house; a small family owned and a Pet Supplies Plus store. I have a TSC (Tractor Supply Co) within about 30 miles of my house but when I called them this morning they had never even HEARD of Blue FREEDOM, let alone carry it. The Pet Supplies Plus DOES carry Orijen puppy, but it's the small breed puppy, they have been sold out of the Large Breed puppy for over a week now.

I'm not saying I don't understand WHY my pup's stomach's upset, but keeping him on TOTW wasn't an option and I have to special order the puppy chow because it's so new.

Believe me, no one wants my kids on a consistent diet more than I do, I feel like I find a "good" food and then the skeletons fall out of the proverbial closet and I can't feed the food anymore. It's like constantly beating my head up against a brick wall. I'm trying to do right by them but struggle to find the elusive "Good" food that I won't have to take a second mortgage out on my house for.

I've been feeding Earthborn for about a year now--my dogs have done extremely well on it. It's comparable in price to ToTW, but the calories are higher--which I really like.

I also fed the Earthborn product with grain to my puppies and momma dogs last year, and they all did really well on it.

Every time I end up trying Blue Buffalo, I'm never really happy with the quality of it or how my dogs do with it.

I also have started feeding some Honest Kitchen -- their Keen line has a reasonable price and the quality is very high. The dogs also really like it.

Thank you Christine, I too have heard nothing bad about Earthborn!

The ONLY reason I am trying this NEW Blue FREEDOM is because it IS grain free, if it wasn't, I'd be passing on it. If I don't like it, you can bet I'll be calling Blue up, just as I did with every other brand of dog food. LOL
