Not to shake the Earth, but what the dogs of the Eastern bloc are bred for NOW is a greatly different purpose than what they may have originally been intended for. That was a not a nice part of the world at that time and those dogs were used against their own citizens. Hardly the same as what people call "DDR" dogs today. They are primarily bred today to be large-boned (though many aren't) pretty dogs with raccoon eyes and not much drive. There's another generalization, equally as accurate and inaccurate as the other posts...point being, there are exceptions to EVERY rule. Not that you can reason with people though....the wall fell in 89. I remember it well. I have a piece of it. Just sayin'.

See what the OP said:
I just bought a GSD puppy recently and have a few pictures of the parents and a breeder has told me that the parents have bad backs just by looking at the pictures. I would like your opinions please.

He/She claims that those pictures are of his/her puppy's parents which I find too hard to swallow.
I remember when I used to ask questions to learn I felt lot of gratitude for those who gave replies and opinions and I was ready and happy to provide all info and details they asked for and I could provide, I don't see this attitude from the OP in this case. Looks like mere interest in getting a discussion to go on and not interest in learning, I know how it goes when one wants to learn and how it looks when one wants to develop a discussion and watch and every now and then provide some fuel. Something is not right here and I could be wrong, lots of things look wrong recently.

Generalizations about dogs suck, don't they?

"Generalizations about dogs suck, don't they?"
Yes, they do. You just have to see where they are coming from, and usually that explains a lot. Best to just ignore asinine comments, as well as asinine people.

Ibrahim, I understood what you were saying. No, it's quite unlikely that those pics are the parents, just from the standpoint that they're scanned photos, but the OP ignored the question, just like s/he ignored when I asked what the ped. was on the thread s/he just posted entitled "Opinions on my boy."
It definitely appears that Mitchell prefers to keep most pertinent information to him/herself, Ibrahim.

RS, that gets easier with every post I read on this thread LOL.

Sorry Jenni78, I had a completely different take on the question. I thought the OP was concerned about hip health because another breeder commented on the parents of her puppy having hip dysplasia based on a photo and "drop of the back". I really didn't see a need to contribute to the conversation of the comment some breeder made because that seemed to be covered and clearly an uneducated comment. I thought the OP was concerned about her puppy having the possibility of hip dysplasia. If the parents pictured are rated in to OFA database and are "normal" well then the proof is in the pudding. Besides, who really cares what some stupid breeder said about the way a dogs rear/back/hips look as long as the parents are OFA. If the parents aren't OFA then this would be a good opportunity to educate the OP and actually do something constructive with this thread.
Seems to me the WL vs. SL people took this as another opportunity to discuss why one is better than the other based off the "police dog german shepherds have straight backs".
Something does seem off with this post... either someone very green to GSD or something else but something is off with the post. OP is new to the forum so maybe he/she is just trying to get some feedback? This forum is far from the friendliest place for new people trying to learn and he/she may not want to get chastised by people saying the wrong thing. I don't know... just a guess but something is a little off.
