I agree Jade. As a buyer you have to educate yourself. Some people and myself at times expect the breeder to be knowledgable especially with what he breeds.Seems DDr/czech has become an advertisment label. I would like to be able to see a pedigree and see the lines not just the dogs if that makes sense. I try to read ped of ddr/czech dogs and compare them to ones that maybe i thought were so to learn the differences better.

DDR may no longer exist (geographically) but it is a term by which someone could define a specific type of dog. I believe that terminology is highly needed, especially in these days, when (in my view) the breed is going down, with looks taking over temperament. You get the show line dogs and then there's the working line which now is putting a lot of emphasis on drive, which again in my view, does not do a service to the breed.
The DDR type helps one look / find a specific type of dog, with certain traits and a certain drive ballance.
Unfortunately the DDR dog is rarely what it once used to be and I blame that on so called "breeders" who just mate dog A to dog B without really studying the blood lines and do some "proper" work / breeding. But there are still a few (just a handful) breeders out there and I trust in the coming years the fruit of their effort to save the true DDR type dog will become more visible - as right now all that's very visible is the dogs and pups of those who are into it for the money.

I have to agree with dani81176. The GSD today is bred for the pet trade. And any breeder with serious working dogs Czech-west or ddr will not sell them to the average person wanting a house pet. There are serious working dog breeders in all these lines

I agree with Dani81176, I think that post hits the nail squarely....unfortunately I think today's DDR are far different than the ones of the early 90's.

I agree with him too--same thing I have been saying for a long time.  I love the true DDR type and lined dogs and have for a long time. There is a place in Europe--von Parchimer--that I love their dogs and if I was ever going to buy a true 100% DDR lines, it would be from there. Most of the people in the US I wouldn't give them a plug nickel for a dog. I said most not all so you guys don't get your panties in a wad.  Too much all about the dollar bill to suit me.

Vonissk,
What draws you to Parchimer Land?

First of all, I like the looks of their dogs. Secondly I have looked at their pedigrees and I feel that they are truly trying to preserv e the lines and type of the true DDR dogs. Did you have something you wanted to tell me about them? I'm definately willing to listen and learn. In other words I don't know that much about them except what I read and little blips here and there from people.

I am just curious when people have strong opinions as to how they formed the opinion.
