We have a working line GSD, Showline GSD and 8 year old chihuahua living under the same roof. They get along...

Completely agree alboe!!!!

When I was little I lived in a neighborhood that was constantly terrorized by the nastiest Chow I have ever seen. One day Bear got out and all the neighborhood kids were scared to death to come out. My 10lb little tortie cat attacked that dog and sent him packing. She chased him, hissing in all her kitty glory. The Chow ran home screaming with tail tucked between his legs.

My old girl Bonnie lives happily with 7 cats and a 15 year old dwarf rabbit. Throughout the years she has mothered a squirrel, various birds, gerbils and fish. We got Bonnie at 4 months old, had her spayed almost immediately ( requirement for adoption) but her mothering instincts are very high. One of the cats tries to nurse on her ( The cat is 5 years old now).

The capacity to get along with other animals has absolutely nothing to do with show/working lines but the individual dog. I have a GSD who would kill a cat in an instant if given the chance. She is the daughter of my cat friendliest GSD. Ava was raised with cats but it was not in her genes to get along. Her half sister is not bothered by the cats and also wants to herd them (not hurt!).

I have several parrots in the house small to medium and the dogs are never left unattended when the birds are out of the cages. Now when they are in their cages my birds have been know to hollar "get back you bad bad dog" lol
