Dawn,
Everyone is hoping for the best for Lexie!!!

It has been very cold and rainy in the Chicagoland area lately. A lot of people I know have sick dogs. The weather is ripe for bacteria on the ground. Is the vet sure that this isn't a bacterial issue with Lexie. I am wondering because you said that her last bout was 13 months ago (Oct.2008). This was also a cold damp month. These are very similar conditions to the spring when many dogs also experience intestinal bacteria issues. Have you looked over the years at the times of year that Lexie gets sick? It could play a role in what is, or has been, happening with her. If this was a constant problem in the fall it could be an allergic reaction that sets this off like occurs in humans. I have allergies and asthma that get horrible in the fall due to the cold, damp conditions. Mold in the air really sets me off. It would be worth taking a look at the times of year she has gotten sick if you have all the records, especially when she has been very ill. If this were so I would pass that info along to the vet. It may help another dog in the future.

OGBS,

The blood samples she took showed the Pancreas level was up.  She is also a dog with EPI. Thanks for the info.

Noddi,

Go on ahead and pass the info along with the person you had mentioned with the dog with EPI. But remember, what is used in the UK,  might not be available here in the States. If it can help her to gain some weight.  Thank you for you concern. EVERYONE!

Hi Dawn,
I can imagine what you are going through.
I have a bitch (5yrs old this month) who has a pancrease deficiency.
She was diagnosed when she was about a year old.
I struggled to get weight on her. The only thing that works is pork pancrease from the butcher.
In my heart i know she might not be with me much longer, so I make sure I spend as much time with her as possible.
What you are going through is what I dread the most - knowing the day will come when I must say good bye to her for the last time. Until that day I will enjoy her company and appreciate having her.
I hope all works out well for Lexie & you.
