Wondering why no one has mentioned puppy mills (and if you did I am sorry if I missed it) on here who are the worst offenders of them all? Even a crappy BYB puppy is better than a puppy mill puppy. If we could get rid of the puppy mills and their poorly bred, unkept, unsocialized dogs we would be getting rid of a large portion of the problem. I think rescues are a necessary evil (and I help run one) unless you want to deal with dumped dogs or euthinization. I do have a problem with how some rescues choose to spend their money. However, if we could get a handle on the puppy mills who produce these poorly bred unsocialized puppies we would see less dogs in the shelter. The bottom line is it is up to the average Joe dog owner to take care of the dog they adopted and promised to love. So many people think there are "good dogs" and "bad dogs" and it is just the roll of the dice which dog you get. So when the dog they get comes up snake eyes they just roll the dice again. They don't realize how big of a roll breeding and socializing a puppy plays into how that dog will turn out.
