Gerald wanted to know where she had heard those words, the ones his mother saved for him, alone!  He also blinked his eyes to see clearer, because he recognized the woven pattern on her coat as something the Navajo's would use. And this one seemed familiar. It called him, he thought. His chest tightened.

He struggled to hear clearly, but his sense of boundary was way off. He took a step toward the old hag, and it left him exhausted, like he had just hiked to the peak of some rocky mountain top. He gasped for air, hoping his brain was working properly, knowing he was in an illusion, but not knowing the real parts. And wondering if maybe, his answers were with the unreal parts.
